The most significant now? In terms of British music.

I'm going to agree with Richard of Morris. It's The Streets.

How are The Streets significant? Yet another bloke mumbling some trite lyrics over a hackneyed beat with a couple of samples chucked in for good measure is hardly groundbreaking.

I don't need to take anything. He's more important for ME than anyone else in the last decade. You can pipe up about U2 and Coldplay all you want generally their music doesn't touch anyone at all. It just sounds nice.

''And it was all yellow?''

f*** off.

Were you lying down when you typed that? An angry young man indeed.

That, my friend, is complete nonsense that will no doubt be backed up by some shit taht suggests rap or garage music cannot be called 'real' because it doesn't follow the exact same formula of music that bands in this country have been using for decades.

There's a lot of good rap and garage music out there, but it's also following a formula that's been used for decades. It's no newer or more groundbreaking than anything else...

I think it carried the same amount of significance for a lot of people (myself included) as Oasis did. This is all opinions anyway, it's just my opinion is right.

Is anyone talking about 'groundbreaking' music here?

Personal significance, maybe. Musical significance, no.

Okay, who is/are the most musically significant artist/band of the last decade? I'm REALLY intrigued as to the correct answer.

The fact that this thread has been going for 6 pages and no one has mentioned Supergrass is a f***ing travesty. Consistently brilliant. Chappers was also on the money with Super Furry Animals. Reinvention and constant genius from the Welsh mentalists.

Anyone that seriusly thinks Coldplay, Manics, Robbie "Fat Dancer" Williams and the like are worthy of mention on this thread are fools. Music for people that don't like music. Yellow? f***ing beige more like.

Simple answer is that there haven't been any. Music over the last 10-15 years has been incredibly regressive. I honestly can't think of any band that's done anything that hasn't been done before. The last "significant" band was probably Nirvana and if we're honest, all they did was rip off Pearl Jam and The Pixies.

In my opinion mainstream music of the last 10 years hasn't moved on greatly.

No one is worthy in pop/rock terms.

Agree entirely. Who will remember any of the 1995 - 2005 popular music in 20 years time? No one!

Last decent bands/artists were in the 60s and 70s. Showing my age!

Total and utter bollocks. Just because you have no interest in music from that time and hark back to the "golden age". Go stick some Beatles on and suck on your Werthers grandad.

Have you given up smoking too?
