I cant imagine it was a speed gun at that time of night more a fixed camera, in which case what have the police got to do with it

I got done a few weeks back on the bit of road between Handcross and Pease Pottage services. A bit annoying as the copper was standing behind a bush with a speed gun, but I can't really complain as I was doing 40 in a 30.

It is a well-known fact that speed limits don't apply between 3:59am and 4:01 am so I would appeal if I were you.

I might have felt the same as you until someone was killed right outside my house, in a village so small it didn't have a pub or a bus shelter.

never had one, wouldnt compalin if i got one tho as i am bad for speeding

A few years back ... 36 mph along Hastings seafront at about 7.00pm on a weekday evening.

My excuse ... I was travelling at the same speed as everyone else.

Ironically, I was driving home after a meeting with people from Hastings Council and the Police about how road safety could be improved in the town.

A fair cop. But very irritating at the time.

I had two as a youngster. But nothing in the last million miles.

Loving all the sanctimonious replies on here - yes so technically he was guilty etc etc - but how can you say that booking a guy for speeding in a deserted area at 4am is using cameras for anything other than just taking money off motorists who haven't done anything (in this case) seriously wrong?

Speeding is speeding no matter where and what time. If you don't want to risk getting caught then don't speed, simple enough.

If one day i get caught speeding the last thing i'll be looking for is someone to tell me i was in the right.

Caught 7 years ago by a camera doing 41 along Old Shoreham Road. Annoying, but I could have no cause for complaint. I have been much more careful since, in spite of being frequently tailgated by white van/Mondeo man for not doing over 45 in a 30 area.

I think the police should crack down on these transit drivers who seem to think its a requirement to tailgate people who are driving to the speed limits. Am I correct in thinking that a Transit van should not exceed 60mph on single & dual carriageways? If this is the case there is no excuse for tailgating people in cars doing 70mph.
