Good for you!

There aren't as many male teachers at KS1 and KS2 are there should be. Are you waiting for a training placement or are you qualified and applying for a position?

Thank you.

I have noticed that from my observations thus far! Christmas parties could be interesting.

Starting my Primary PGCE in September. Really excited!

But wasn't it at Westdene Primary that SWEAT held a public meeting at which they announced that 'old people will die' if the Albion were allowed to play at Withdean? Place should be closed down immediately.

pffftt, no idea. Left there a long time ago. Yeah Westdene is full of old people....literally everyone's 90+...

What a crazy situation. They should go back to sending kids to their nearest school like they used to in the old days. It was easier and there was no such things as appeals. Somone is always going to get a raw deal here.

Conboy is absolutely spot-on. What doesn't help is that a number of people - especially when moving from London - buy houses not far from Balfour because that is the one with supposedly the best yummy-mummy reputation. They flood the area hoping/insisting on that school. Some people get very precious over this sort of thing.

Still, it does mean that my better half gets to hoover up some Balfour kids for her after-school club.

With respect, the 'yummy-mummies', whoever they are, are asking for no more than that their child goes to 'their nearest school like they used to in the old days'. So we have this delightful situation that TLO is ending up on the same side as the yummies. Perhaps we need some sort of screening system to determine why people buy houses in the areas they do - a sort of visiting tribunal to seek out an over-reliance on Kath Kidson cushions and Farrow & Ball paint with instant disqualification if it is discovered that the reason for buying the house was not something important such as ease of commuting or the fact the front garden had been concreted but, heaven forfend, the quality of schooling available to their children.

It's a ridiculous and unfair process.

Am I missing something here. Surely you looked at the prospectuses, visited the schools, chose the sxhool, paid the fees and will now send your child on their way? What is rediculous and unfair about that to you?

If only Timmy was as wealthy as he thinks he is (and has the front to brag about).

What they're actually doing is creating a lottery system based upon a reputation.

And I'm not siding with anyone. Where you got that notion from, I've no idea.

Old people do die though.

My Son goes to the local primary which is two minutes walk away and my daughter is going there in september as well. But then I live in Horsham where that pretty much seems to be the norm and seems somewhat different to the Brighton area by the sounds of things.

I don't think I said you're siding with anyone. I simply pointed out that both you and the yummy-mummies (and Conboy and, uninterestingly, me) are in favour of an arrangement whereby children go to their nearest school if at all possible.

(The fact that you used the word yummy-mummies gave me the vague impression that you disapproved of people who bought houses on the basis of the schools in the area but I apologise for misleading myself and detecting irony where none existed.)

At Sussex? Do you have to specialise in a specific subject for Primary teaching?

Yes, at Sussex. My 'specialist' subject is maths, but it seems that I can do all sorts of top up courses (Science etc.) and teaching will be general.

They asked me to list my FOUR key strengths to which I answered...

1. Literature
2. Geography
3. Numeracy
