I know, I saw this fool giving his speech on tv. Does he not understand the concept of the minimum wage?

what does it matter, how disabled they are why should they get paid less

Example-would you trust a 1 armed coach driver to drive your kids on a school trip-like i say definition that's all-

If you are fit and able enough to do the job then you should get the going rate.

I doubt a disabled person would apply for a job they couldn't do.

Because disabled employee's cost more and generally aren't as productive as an abled person. Harsh but true.

It may cost more initially if you have to make adjustments to the work environment, possibly to allow someone who uses a wheelchair full access, though I can't see how else they could cost more. To say that someone who has a disability isn't as productive person is a bit of a sweeping statement and in my experience complete and utter bollocks. I accept that there are many jobs where an unhindered physique is required (firefighter, police officer, front line soldier for example), but it is often the case that someone who has to overcome a physical issue goes that much further to prove their value and justify their employment.

Surely the government should top up the wages of people that can work, but not to the standard of somebody abled. I can recall the company I worked for employed someone partially sighted and we set their target at 75% productivity in comparison to 100% everyone else. We would have loved to treat them the same but they couldn't compete with the rest of staff.

Companies should be encouraged to take on staff who otherwise would claim DLA, but there must be an incentive otherwise businesses lose out.

so they should be treated like 2nd class people not there fault is it, i take it no one really read the article it seemed more aimed to me at people with mental health issues

No-they should not be-yes i did read the article in full-but perhaps when it comes to people with mental health issues society has not really classed people with such issues as disabled-my mother had various drugs and electric shock treatment to her brain at 1 stage in her life-she was told she had mental health problems-she never did before and she never did after that period in her life, she had an allergic reaction to a everyday drug and things went from bad to worse before better-all down to a doctors diagnosis-anyway mental health issues can effect anybody at any given time, some people are born with them-again it comes down to what type and such things i suppose-

If a disabled person can bring as much to the role as an abled person, then it's quite right that they receive equal pay. But in my experience particularly those with learning disabilities cannot produce the same quality of output as the rest.

What? Did they have that annoying habit of actually being able to use the English language correctly?

I feel we should all take a step back once in a while-any single 1 of us could be "disabled / have mental health issues" tomorrow-and be a bit more forgiving-like i said at the start depends on definition-a 1 armed coach driver would not happen so they get no pay at all, however a 1 armed top scientist with the best brain in the institute should get top dollar-as for the related article i feel the minimum wage should be just that-no exception

Because generally that is incorrect. The level of productivity is generally due to the level of education and self motivation an individual has.

More to do with physical capabilities i would say.

The only thing that matters is the persons ability to work. If they are disabled it shouldn't matter and they should be paid the same if they can produce the same quality of work as an abled person. The issue I have is that with the amount of small businesses going under they shouldn't have to fit the bill, by employing staff who cannot produce the same level of work.

we all human beings we dont ask to be dealt the cards we dealt so we should all be treated as equals.

I thought all business had to be disabled friendly now thought that was law, so hiring someone should not actually cost any extra.

Also i have mental health issues and am classed as disabled, i have not had them all my life, just started about 4/5 years ago, and got so bad i couldnt even get out of bed, that said im not about to start volunteer work to make sure im ready, i used to be a volunteer groundsman as Ashford United but had to leave as i had a relapse, this time im doing my work with Mind in Brighton. I didnt deserve to get ill so i dont think i should be treated any different to anyone else.
