Police now investigating, let’s hope those responsible for this atrocity face the full weight of the law...

'Atrocity = 'extreme wickedness ' ( OED )......a word usually reserved for heinous events. Mass murder etc. Seems fairly strong to call trailing a banner from a light aircraft an atrocity. It might be offensive to some. Some may deem it an atrocious thing to say. Others may just regard it as a bit provocative and foolhardy. In truth, the sensitivity of the time deems that there is a difference between ' White Lives Matter ' and ' Black Lives Matter ' There shouldn't be. Both are equally racist statements. A light aircraft trailing a ' BLM ' banner would have been applauded.

I think Bakerlite's comedy stylings have flown over your head, Mo.

Yeah, thanks for the continued interest.

As you can see I was commenting on the reaction to the WLM banner by millionaire footballers whilst they continue to advocate a movement that has an objective to dismantle the capitalism system they have benefitted from.

It would appear some people don’t agree (or understand) with that point despite a) BLM having an objective to dismantle capitalism, and b) footballers earning millions of pounds in remuneration.

Open and shut case really so there should be no confusion............I can knock a PowerPoint slide together if that would help?

Is it entirely possible that they may just be advocating for the equal treatment of BAME and to stop the systematic racism that is engrained in many cultures and countries, without agreeing with everything that a movement stands for?

I'm guessing you've never voted for a political party and 100% agreed with every single pledge or decision they have made?

Sadly, the fact that we (and the papers, and Sky Sports) are all talking about this, today, means that the EDL (or whatever Yaxley-Lennon and his band of ***** currently call themselves) have achieved what they set out to do, when they commissioned this banner.

Stoke further division, agitate for tit-for-tat escalation, stir hatred.

Would have been so much better if the banner could have been completely ignored.

I wonder if there is any grounds for Burnley to be docked points? I'm not saying they will or should (one can only hope), but if the EPL are actually serious about the progressive BLM movement then this could be a watershed moment.

I don't think anyone who's been on NSC more than five minutes needs a PowerPoint on deflection, obfuscation and whataboutery thanks.

In that case let's hire planes to fly over all of our relegation rivals this week.

I'm just getting a quote for "White Lives Matter - CPFC", so I have a vested interest in this. Please keep me updated.

erm.....

bye.

The clue was really in the first two words of his first comment: 'What about',

'All Lives Matter' and 'White Lives Matter' are pure what-aboutism, used to either deflect or troll. In the case of whichever bigots paid for this plane, we all know its the latter. They are almost certainly laughing to themselves about how clever and subvertive they've been and thinking they've won because their actions have annoyed everybody. In reality, the sand will continue to shift under them and they will continue lashing out because they don't understand why.

If you want it to look convincing, it might be a good idea to spell some of it wrong. Probably the CPFC bit.

I suspect not. Grounds can be closed if there are pitch invasions because in that case it's a fair bet that home fans were responsible or can be identified as such, or the home side was negligent in not taking adequate preventive measures. But it's hard to know what they could have done to stop this.

It's not even that close a relationship. It's more like saying that anyone who has liberal views on anything is a hypocrite over university tuition fees.

Agree. It's possible to support the idea that black lives matter without subscribing to all the beliefs of the organisation Black Lives Matter.

The short history of aerial banners seems to me to be something of a nightmare. Who, for example, could forget that image of Nigel Farage outside the crashed plane carrying his banner? Or the ones ‘Moyes must go’ over Old Trafford during Moyes’ tenancy there? I am puzzled that individual pilots can fly around football stadiums and built up areas and the like trailing these things without some air traffic controller wondering what is going on…

Not at all missing the point - I get it. But for an incident to be the protagonist for the protests and movement that has no evidence of racism just bemuses me. There’s loads of articles in the National press about the racist murder of GF’ - and that simply isn’t confirmed. I fully support the movement and protests (except the morons on both ‘sides’ ignoring the pandemic rules), I just find it weird that many have just assumed it is racist. My first thought other than sadness and shock was how there are still police officers who use their role to bully people - police brutality. The colour of the guys skin didn’t come into it. I guess I wasn’t searching for racism like some may have. As I say, that Netflix doc ‘now they see us’ I think it’s called literally had me welling up for the poor lads and that was almost certainly racially motivated given the evidence. I just find the incident that started this movement good and propper a bit odd as like to deal I’m facts. It’s been a great way to hammer home to anyone unsure that racism is unacceptable etc. Although things like banning uncle Ben from appearing on a packet of rice or banning a rugby song sang in support of a team are going way too far for me. Nobody has had a pop at the milky bar kid yet - he’s next.

I'm afraid you're missing so much of this. Ive tried to stop listening ti my "opinion" and start listening to black voices. One of the things I've picked up is that it is insufficient to be "not a racist" oneself, one need to be actively anti-racist. The first is just a form of passive enablement.

So call it out I will. Your trivialisation of the subject - "nobody has had a pop at the milky bar kid yet - he's next" is from the "white lives matter" playbook.

Like the teacher and the snorkels, this would have been better being comprehensively ignored by the public and the media.

Dangerous game stopping listening to opinions. How are we going to have the conversations that people have talked about ? Not much point logging into the internet for a start.
