It depends on your personal viewpoint - I can't see anything on the BLM website about abolishing capitalism (it could be on there, i just havent found it), but this isn't simply about politics - it's about basic human decency. I'd argue that is a far more pressing issue to not just the movement but all the supporters than bringing down capitalism...but then it depends on your angle on it.

How you want to view the BLM movement is entirely your prerogative, I am providing merely mine. An exchange of views doesn’t have to descend into rancour.

And my point remains, if we are to witness multi millionaire footballers use their privileged position to support a political movement that is seeking to dismantle capitalism then I don’t want to see them just take the knee, or use social media for some messages I want to see their commitment to ridding themselves of their “capital”.

Otherwise, they need to find an alternative to BLM.

No.

Racism has been ignored for too long

This was racism but the kind of racism that thrives on attention. Should have been deliberately ignored and shut down.
They wanted a fuss and that’s why they’ve been given.
Handled completely the wrong way imo.

It’s basically the same as answering posts written by Ppf. It just fuels them.

Anyone else think that "All lives matter" would be a more appropriate slogan to use if we are really trying to promote equality?

When people finally get the message that Black Lives Matter then All Lives will. But, again, there's a whole thread on this in the Bear Pit.

We all know that racism has been In decline for years.

The scale of racist in this country was at an all-time low.

Like you I thought that racism was a thing of the past in Britain - but what the events of the past few weeks have taught me is that that very much isn't true. I have learned many things that have horrified me, and its been a very valuable experience.

Black Lives Matter should be lauded as a powerful, peaceful and intelligent movement that is very clearly not anti-white and embracing people from across the spectrum of race, colour and creed. At its heart is a call to meet society's ideals of equality for all without fear or favour, and anyone who has suffered inequality for any reason can feel uplifted by this. I see nothing but positivity in this, at I do for any movement that seeks to make our society a more just place.

Some people feel threatened by it - including those who should be, but also many who shouldn't, and that is a shame.

Cheers, i'll give that a read.

It is impartial and gives his full record, with what if's and why's
read it in full to get the whole picture, he obviously did some pretty nasty things in his past, but is he a product of racism in America today.
To me crime is crime and you do have a choice, but you must always ask why.

Yes. Because they will never win over the white 30 year olds plus struggling financially in life because they didn't have a fair start. They would have come onboard a people on minimum wage lives matter for example. Go from there rather than dismiss them as racist.
I love the BBC but there is a huge group of people who don't believe they are neutral. Unfortunately as the BBC have backed BLM rather than report it I feel they will become even more determined to go against it.

So what you're saying is people can't have their own opinions ???

You would agree its capitalism in context though, right? IE its those capitalistic structures that disproportionately reduce equality for black people?

I suppose the wider point here is, do you support capitalism at any cost, if it inherently creates inequalities in society that are nothing to do with a person's innate ability or efforts but everything to do with their background and factors out of their control?

.....

Thats my main point, but I will always say that's its a cheap shot to ask someone who wants to reform our capitalistic society to 'give up their capital'. Anti-capitalism does not mean anti - capital, a world of no money or other socialist ideals, instead it is a broad church of ideas aimed at creating fairness in our society. You could argue that one-nation-toryism is just a version of anti - capitalism, or at least that's how it's sold to the voters 'anyone can be successful if they study hard, work hard and follow the rules' . But it's not really true is it.

But even if you want to take things to the extreme, I'll quote a line from the last season of Westworld "it took money to build this society, it will take money to tear it down"

First arrested at 23 with under a gram of coke- sentenced to 6 months in jail. Would that have happened to a young white guy?

Eitherway, any reference to Floyd's record is an atempt to distract from the fact that he was murdered by a cop.

Think my odds of 1/5 on of this ending up in the bear pit were extremely generous :lolol:

No matter what starting point you give a thread on this subject they always end up down the same avenue.

There are of course already movements for anyone suffering from financial inequality, the largest of which is the Labour Party. And those 30 year old unemployed struggling people who didn't have a fair start includes many black people.

But most of all, anyone suffering inequality should laud BLM, instead of saying 'its not my inequality so I don't care'. Whether it's gender, sexuality, disability, age, nationality, educational background or race, all of these movements are valid and they support each other. A just society is the aim

I think the fact that there is so much pushback on the 'race' inequality issue, as opposed to disability or sex discrimination issues, shows exactly why their movement is needed.

That's a group calling themselves "Black Lives Matter UK (BLMUK)". They have called themselves something.

Are the premier league supporting BLMUK specifically or BLM more generally? If its the former how do you know?
