i assume descending size, in which case im quite surprised Manchester isnt 3rd or 4th, always thougt it larger.

that Wakefield is definatly wonky though, some odd counting of city verses surrounding district? lets be honest who knew were it was or barely heard of it?

I have to say that was my reaction too.

http://www.ukcities.co.uk/populations/ says 316,000.

Wikipedia says 76,886.

Wakefield Council's website says this:-

The population of Wakefield District is 322,319 (males: 157,919; females: 164,400)(based on 2008 mid-year estimate)

Strangely enough I am reading this whilst in a hotel which would technically be in the Wakefield District but not really part of Wakefield. I think 76886 is probably the correct figure. It's a lot smaller than the likes of Nottingham for example

Three.

I claim the dubious honour of being the first person to own up to having lived in Wakefield...

Brighton and London only. Brighton for the first year of my life (born at the Zachary Merton Hospital in Rustington), have been half-living in London since 2002, though I spend at least half the time with Mum and Dad at Sharpthorne. I've never spent a night in any of the others.

That list is not right? Manchester is the 3rd biggest city (cetainly bigger than Leeds and Liverpool) and Portsmouth is bigger than Brighton in terms of population?
