That list is not right? Manchester is the 3rd biggest city (cetainly bigger than Leeds and Liverpool) and Portsmouth is bigger than Brighton in terms of population?

Even wikipedia states that Brighton and Hove has a larger population than either Portsmouth or Southampton.

London (for 3 days - got a house and everything, then decided I hated the place), Manchester, Nottingham, Brighton AND Hove (are we really happy that they are lumped together in lists like this?)


The actual city of Manchester is not that huge (I worked for the council) its basically just a load of grotty districts and the centre. I would guess that the figure listed is the figure for the 'City of Manchester' council area, which doesn't include these other parts of Greater Manchester - Salford, Trafford, Bolton, Oldham, Tameside (Stalybridge), Rochdale, Bury, Wigan and Stockport. In particular Trafford, Salford and many parts of Stockport, Bury, Tameside and Oldham are very contiguous with Manchester itself.
