why is it you find loads of english people who say "i've got irish in my family"

but, when you ask irish people, none of them have any english in them? ???

Very good historical reason for that I think you will find.

Maybe it's just me but as far as I'm concerned I support all the British teams first, then France then anyone else.

After all I am British and European.

Whoever is closest to Brighton I support, apart from Wales who are my team having watched rugby from a young age with my Dad who was born in the Rhondda valley.

He wasn't interested in football at all so England are my football team!

I realised the anti-Welsh thing with England supporters when my brother-in-law joined the family. He couldn't stand Wales. As an avid England supporter he couldn't forgive them for the 70s.

Mind you he's mellowed now as the rest of the family support Wales. Or maybe he's pretending?

i'm english and hate it when england lose at anything, just to add what game is most important

football-scotland
rugby-wales
all sports-australia

Wales in Rugby.
England in everything else.

Being half English half Welsh and being raised in Wales for the the first 10 years during the glory days it is difficult not to do anything else.

We are not all England fans on here are there? Surely we have some people with Scottish/Welsh blood and hate England with all there heart.

I support Scotland, England are a bunch of overpaid twats.

Poll to follow.
If Scotland's so good go back and live there.

Born in NI but my great grandad was English on my Mum's side, a cockney to boot; ergo, I have English blood in me. He married a Dubliner and moved to Belfast, so I have Southern Irish in me. My Dad's side were planted in Ulster hundreds of years ago, and they originated from West Scotland, so I have Scottish blood too.

I want England to do well all the time, until they rock up at Windsor Park, then I want them to lose - heavily, same for the rest - and that includes 'The Mexicans' from south of the border (the Republic).

Wales.

My grandad was born in North Wales and I have a Welsh surname. Visits there have always been 'interesting' for football experiences especially at Ninian Park and the Vetch Field with larges fences up, terracing and intimidating atmospheres. I miss all that now - real football. :sheep:

Can i ask why you're questioning the original question?

Just interested. A lot of people seem to think there's some kind of law when it comes to nationality. Wondered why the questioner questioned original opinion.

Can I ask why you qustion me questioning the original question?

It might also be that it's exactly as brovion called it , i know someone with two irish great grandparents who describes himself as irish, despite never even having been there, he is as brovion so accurately described a

" sad fucker with low self-esteem desperately searching for an identity".

I didn't mean everyone. That guy does sound a bit sad. But plenty of people have very real connections with other lands, particularly through their parents.
