[Music] Which artist had the best ever single album career?

The Postal Service only released one album, but I listen to it relatively often - sounds very much like an early Death Cab for Cutie album though.
This is what I was going to post.

I was in New York last week and saw The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie doing a double headline 'Give Up' / 'Transatlanticism' show.

38 years of my life thus far and that's up there in the Best Night Ever category.

Excellent - lucky you.

I agree with this statement. I’ll also add, it’s often the case these same people think everything which has been released since they were 16-24 is rubbish…..which is nonsense.
Yes, that's the other side of the coin.
And am I right in thinking that the photographer is one Steve Albini?
On which, I've read the Long Read, but am yet to listen to it:

It was Will Oldham aka Bonny Prince Billy. I only found this out whilst read about the scene he came from.

I’ll give the Albini article a read.

'The' Yaztromo

The greatest heavy rock album ever.

The greatest drumming performance ever and some of the best riffs ever written.

(The second album is okay too, but I’m not counting that here.)

I used to listen to a lot of Will Oldham, but haven't done for years. I suspect you've seen Shellac live; if not, do, as they're one of my favourites

Oh well, if you're taking that approach then I'm going to nominate Three Imaginary Boys. It's completely different from the rest of their albums. I know Robert hates it but I love it and Michael Dempsey's bass playing is exquisite.

I am only going to include bands who released only a single album, but who have had long enough to make a second were they planning to do so, and haven't. There are countless bands who made one great album plus dross.

These three will do for starters. Absolute gems, each of them.

OK, I see others have mainly gone for bands who made one great album plus a pile of dogshite. In which case, try these:

The Sex Pistols and Jeff Buckley are two great shouts.

I'll chuck in the La's.

The winner is the sex pistols though, no?
I rather like the great rock and roll swindle, albeit it isn't exactly a Sex Pistols album.

Come on people.

Let's stick to the rules and only include artists who have released a single classic. No point in releasing another, just leave it alone. You will ruin your legacy.

I know Peter has released a number of solo albums, but his original band only released this classic ->

The Roaring boys . They were put together in the mid 80’s from London . They got a big advance as the record company thought they had another Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet on their hands . Despite a couple of strong single releases and minor chart success their music did not take off and their debut album was their only release . It’s actually quite good .

Another unusual fact about them , they were all ex public school boys from England . That must be a first for a pop band .
