My impression of that was he was trying to pressure the club to give him an improved contract. They called his bluff.

I said exactly this at the time when people were wetting the bed in the last transfer window about him making this statement. This is one example where we have shown to players and their agents that we won't be held to ransom, and I believe we've come out on top as Stockdale is a better option.
