Where is nice in ITALY?

We found a villa in Le Marche, an often overlooked part of Italy on the Adriatic.

Amazing scenery, 90 mins from Rome and Florence, and not very touristy (a very much undiscovered part of the country I think)

I've even got the details of a superb villa if you're interested. Not too expensive, sleeps 2 or 3 families so it depends how many of you are going...

Just the two of us.

I like the idea of Florence personally.

Titanic - I've tried to argue that going anywhere nice at the moment is just a folly because of the state of the pound but she isn't having it. I want to go to Cornwall.

ive been quite alot to italy
would agree with some of the above and not as the case may be

tuscany and umbria are nice, rolling hills , nowhere near the sea though, although there is lake trasimino which is lovely .

Which is why when I went to Tuscany I stayed on the coast just to the south of the Alpi mountains.

Oh, and it was a short(ish) train journey to Florence. Just over an hour. Easy to get to, fly Ryan air from Stanstead to Pisa.

Lake Garda is superb. You can also get to Verona & Venice from there so best of both worlds.

Quite so; we stayed at this hotel in Salo during early September a few years back (after the school holidays). From memory, it's just over an hours drive from Verona airport.

Hotel Duomo a Salò sul Lago di Garda Hotel 4 Stelle

Italy's never been cheap but I'd also recommend Rome, Siena, Florence and Positano on the Amalfi coast. Probably wouldn't go for a city break in mid-summer due to the heat but if you're going for a villa and pool then Tuscany or Umbria would be my choices.

International rugby in Rome is always a good weekend, I got lots of brownie points for that trip.

we are doing Livorno ( florence/Pisa/Tuscany) Citaveccia( Rome) Naploi ( Sorrento, Pompeii/capri) Venice in August this year on a big posh ship.

If I won the lottery I would quite happily live in Italy....the Alamfi Coast is just breathtaking

taormina is good ,but a bit pricey saying that though there's some stunning architecture to the south and you've got Etna and a chance to meet the mafia

You can do everywhere in Italy "quite cheap". Just avoid falling into the trap of paying too much attention to the tourist industry.

For example ... decide where you want to stay and then book accommodation by e-mailing a small family guest house in the city centre, rather than somewhere called "HOTEL FOUR STAR JOLLY"

Chappers, I know Italy well. It is my favorite holiday destination ever.
Ive yet to find anywhere that isnt amazing.

However it is expensive wherever you got to be honest. So be prepared for the wallett to take a big hit.

I went to Bardelino on Lake Garda for honeymoon which was great.
But have also done Rome, Pompeii, Venice, Verona, Florence Milan etc

All are great holidays in different ways, depends what your looking for.

Lake Como - Bellagio - far prettier than Garda and no through traffic. Stunning - but not cheap:

Rome - if you want the ruins and great city break.

Florence - if you want a small compact city that is very beautiful with lovely countryside accessible

Umbria - for hill top towns and quiet bars.

Amalfi for lovely coastline and Pompeii

None of it will be cheap because of the weak pound.

Looks nice, take it you recommend it? Good value too by the looks of it.

Definately ... been there twice now ... its a bit quiet but that was the main reason for going. The first time we went we hired a car .. didnt bother hiring one last year as a) the Italian drivers are 'kin nuts! and b) theres a perfectly good ferry service for getting around. Instead we arranged a taxi through the hotel I think it was £150 round trip (which divided by four wasnt bad).
Cannero Riviera itself is a small village but there are a few eateries within walking distance should you get bored with eating in the hotel..
I recommended it to a mate and his new lady and they never left the hotel!

The staff are all very friendly ... the Matre D (Raphale - top bloke) used to work in Chichester and raves about Harvey's Bitter ...

Id stick my neck out and say its one of the nicest places Ive ever been to ..
