if it's the article I've just read it actually reads resigned to losing him IF the asking price is met

In fairness, he can fly direct to east coast US in 5 or 6 hours from Quito, as opposed to circa 18 hours to London, only to return back across the Atlantic for a further 7 all within a few days. That just seems reasonable to me.

Are you referring to this sentence from the Billy Gilmour article?

Gilmour is well-placed for more regular game time than last season; Mac Allister has been sold to Liverpool and Caicedo is probably on his way out as well to Chelsea, who are Brighton’s opening opponents in this weekend’s Premier League ‘Summer Series’.

The bit in bold 'Caicedo is probably on his way out as well to Chelsea' just links to an article about whether Caicedo would be a good fit for Chelsea's midfield. There's nothing in either article to suggest there's been any further development.

We are where we were yesterday, last week, last month. We all know he's probably going but nothing has happened yet to further that outcome. At least nothing mentioned in that article.

Rest assured that if he is sold, it'll be for a price whereby BHA believe that they can make a net enhancement of the squad - ie losing Caicedo's ability in midfield but enhancing strength in other areas. Chelsea is a cash cow for us right now and is setting us up for years.

Yes, we will get a fantastic fee for Caicedo which will probably leave us, like you say, with a stronger team overall and possibly a nice little profit to boot.

Fair enough. He also says in one of the tweets posted earlier something along the lines of talks expected to advance so maybe it's becoming clearer that Chelsea are going to pay what they need to pay to get him.

We'll see. As long as it's concluded one way or the other in the next couple of weeks I'm not going to be too bothered about these possible hints. We know Chelsea want him, we know he'll go if a bid is accepted all we're waiting for is if Chelsea will pay the money. It expends too much energy worrying about the minor things.

I think it makes sense that these guys don’t fly back to the UK for a week, deal with the jet lag and then fly back out to America and deal with it again. More efficient to just do some fitness work together for the few days they are missing, then fly north and meet up with the players in the states.

He wouldn’t be back in the UK a week, we play our first game in the US against Chelsea on Saturday. He would likely be getting off a plane here and pretty much straight on one heading to the states. It makes much more sense for both him and Pervis to fly direct and join up with the squad in America given the very short turn around they’d have doing if any other way.

We're just going through the game of brinkmanship that is similar to when someone goes to look at a new car, clearly likes it but walks away telling the salesman that he is "going to think about it". Everyone knows he'll be back and a deal will be struck one way or another.

The Albion will have been planning for a life without Caicedo for some months now, and I can't imagine they've had any meaningful change in those thoughts. It might actually disrupt our overall plans more if he were to still be here when the transfer window SLAMS shut.

Yep this is where I am. With Dahoud coming in, Glimour stepping up and reported interest in Kudos we seem to be very much planning for life without Moises. The £100 mill we get when it happens will be very sweet indeed and I fully trust De Zerbi to improve any player we have to the levels needed.

The only disappointing thing will be seeing Caicedo go to a mid table side with no European football. You'd have thought he'd have a bit more ambition

MacAllister only had one year left when he signed, so a transfer clause was probably necessary to get the contract extension done. Caicedo, on the other hand, had a deal that ran unitl 2025, so it wouldn't have made much sense for BHA to have allowed a cheap release clause to be inluded when we'd already turned down 70m a month earlier.

Nevertheless, it'd be interesting to know what was in it for Caicedo to pursuade him (and his agent) to put pen to paper and commit to June 2027 (plus one-year option). I imagine it was as simple as being paid a shed load of £££, both in the short-term and for a guaranteed 4.5 years if he was unfortunate enough to suffer a career-hindering injury.

He was on a long contract so he either waited for albions valuation to be met whilst on a lower salary, or on a higher salary.

Made very little difference to his escape from captivity so why not get more cash, which is what football is all about since PL

You’re probably right. It’ll be interesting to see what that planning is, whether it be Colwill, another midfielder, or both. It can’t be a like for like replacement as players of Caicedo’s quality, at his age and within our budget are very few and far between.

It appears Colwill would like a move to us in the same way Caicedo would like to join Chelsea, in so far as it would develop their careers more than staying put. Caicedo being part of what would be an incredible midfield at Chelsea and Colwill getting the game time that he wants (and is not guaranteed by Poch).

I wonder if Dahoud is a replacement for Mac Allister or Caicedo, and whether De Zerbi feels he needs another pivot/CM in addition to Gilmour, Gross and Dahoud.

Personally, I want Biss to walk back in the door for the same price we bought him for, give everyone a big hug and admit it was all a big mistake and he’ll give us at least three years of being brilliant again.

Yep - all the other international players came back earlier last week. Makes sense I guess if they’ve been in the US for a month or so, having a week then heading back isn’t ideal for jet lag
