First pint I had in a pub was The New Regent in 1978 at a Sham 69 gig. After that I used to go regularly to gigs at the Buccaneer, Alhambra, Richmond and often had a drink.
There were loads of pubs where you could have a beer without being challenged, ones I can remember going to are the Aquarium, Black Horse, William IV,
One of the lads I used to drink with (and still do) is 9 months older than me but as a teenager was a bit of a baby face and one night in a pub I ordered three pints of Watneys Special (at the time about 50p a pint). The barmaid said "how old is he ?" pointing at my mate. He piped up "If you can't tell peoples' ages you shouldn't be doing that f...ing job". The landlord then came round the corner and said "You don't talk to people like that, now get out you're barred".
The irony being he'd just turned 18 and had his license with him to prove it.

The limelight club 6th Ave at west 20th

1984 ish the first time I went clubbing in NY.

Ordered a glass of champagne but I think they just gave me a cheap Brut but charged me for champagne!
I was naive at that time ..

The Top House in Burgess Hill. Friday night was more like a youth club than a pub. Also was served under age in the Elephant and Caste in Lewes whilst two similarly aged mates were refused. I enjoyed that.

Worthing
Assorted pubs in Newhaven - Newfield, The Sheffield, The Ark.

Royal Pav Tav/Shades, Golden Fleece, The Star, Carpenters Arms, Hennekies.
Then Sherry’s, Top Rank Suite or the original Savannah (under the Queens Hotel)

All well under age, full blown pubbing and clubbing by age 16, on 8 to 12 pints.

You could get away with blue murder in the 80’s, my older brothers/their mates were clubbing by age 14.

Didn’t do us any harm :lolol:

At the very most you were asked your DOB, deducting x number of years to miraculously be 18.

My Uncle Maurice was landlord there for donkeys years.

My first pint bought in a pub , was the Castle in Worthing, age 15.

A pint of Watneys Red Barrel,:)sick:)and a packet of 10 Number 6, was 50p.

Similar age 'The Cliftonville' outside Hove Station. 'Pint of Lager and Lime, Honestly I'm 18 mister'

Yep, this. My mate got the lagers in while I sat smoking a fag to look older.

I also got into the Gloucester under age on a regular basis using a photocopied birth certificate. We spent my actual 18th in there as well and smuggled in some little bottles of tequila, complete with worm, that my mate had purloined from the off licence he worked in.

Delamere Park Cheshire, Posh Housing Development started in the early 1970's on an old Polish War Barracks site (they didn't put that in the Brochure). Had its own social club with tennis and squash courts and swimming pool. Obviously my Mum and Dad had made it when we moved there in 1975 (Margot Leadbetter would have loved it)

BUT.... it had a Pool Room off the Main Bar Area which became the Estate Teenage hangout, 50 pence a pint and Bovril favoured Crisps 10 pence a bag. There was also a naughty local bloke who sold us reefers which were shared around on the kiddies playground 'after hours'. Bob Carolgees of Spit the Dog fame lived on the Estate and it is one of my claims to fame that I played Pool with him at the age of 16 while supping an underage pint... He was actually a nice bloke!

I remember at some point the £9 I got for my paperound was enough for two Guinness and two JD and cokes at the Leek and Winkle. I think we drank there unchecked from age 15-17 before they started IDing( I think licensing got a bit more inspection in the late 90s)

Wasn't the Gloucester essentially a student union bar, run by the University? Had a few good nights there 'back in the day'.

There was a pub in Glynde I'm pretty sure half my year group from school got in one night, **** knows how! Most my mates are from Lewes so when the sitting in a park days were over, the snowdrop used to serve us

My under age haunt was in a bar known affectionately as. " The Flying Tumbler "

Maybe " affectionately " isn't the appropriate word. :)

The Windsor Tavern near the Clock Tower. The old girl running it was about 90,half deaf and blind. I was 14 and my mates were 15. Pint of lager. We drank in there all the time for 10 years or so. Went through 3 landlords/ladies.

I don’t think I did, but I’ll ask one of my brothers who frequented all the Newhaven pubs in the 70’s. Was Maurice there in that period?

There were so many pubs then eg all those tiny pubs near the ‘new’ Newhaven police station.

Edit: My first ever pints in 1981 cost 90p a pint.

Naively drinking Tetley’s bitter, soon after moving onto Snakebite.
