inspired by giraffe's conundrum, assuming you are not staying overnight, what's the latest you have ever got back from a game?

for me, four seasons ago went to go and see the albion at notts forest on a tues night. living in manchester, i had missed the last direct train home. had to go via derby and sheffield, getting into manchester around 3am, finally home around 4.

we lost 3-2 (good crowd tho, cos i think it was a £5 game).

Hull City - 4th round of the cup in 1984 or 1985? 3-2 win with an orange ball.
Got the seagull special, and it broke down on the way back. We were left on a siding in Peterborough for HOURS with no light or heat [this was January and it was freezing], while they sent for a new loco. I think they either forgot about us, or decided that as we were football hoolies we could lump it.
Got back to Brighton about 4am. Home 30 minutes after that.

It wasn't even an evening game!

I remember coming back in a JBRA minibus from a Friday night game at Chester that was on Sky (Brian Hortons last game as Manager) and finding saturdays paper had already been delivered. I couldnt put a time on it exactly as it had been 'a long day'.

3am after Gerry Ryan's debut game at Stoke (night game). I believe Maybank scored our equaliser but it was a long long time ago. Had to get some Stoke fans to push start my car, as I had a flat battery

Can't believe I drove all that way on my own, night game and I couldn't get anyone to scive off work and come with me, alternatively I could be Billy no Mates.

Was so tired I left a box full of cassettes on the passenger seat and some bastard slashed the hood on my then car and stole the cassettes. New hood was about £500.00 so I remember the night well...

The Hereford game. About 16 of us I think in a mini bus, stopped at what seemed like every pub en route to the motorway. The minibus had lots of mechanical trouble, and the AA were called, and it now gets very hazy, but the outcome I remember was that the minibus finally gave up completely somewhere near Reading services on the M4. We were all pretty pissed, and got 3 or 4 taxis to take us back to Brighton. Got home about 7am next morning.

9am on a wednesday morning following a 2-2 draw at Ayresome Park.I think it was 1988/89 Alan Curbishley scored one of the goals.
I went by supporters coach and we broke down on the M25 and had to wait for a replacement coach from Conway Street to come and collect us.

3pm the next day after the playoff final, was travelling all the night.

I then slept for a few hours, got up and got a taxi to the airport to pick up my car - as I'd driven to the airport and forgotten that I was getting a ferry back :dunce:

Port Vale at Withdean...we won 1-0 and I had a few beers in Brighton before heading back to Guildford. Missed the last train out of Fareham and got home at 11:30 on Sunday morning. Frigging phone died so had 3 weeks of hell from 'er indoors who didn't believe that I'd slept on the station between a wall and a Coke machine...especially as the person I went with got home alright.

Bizarrely I went to West ham in the late eighties, got confused on the underground, and only just caught the last train from Victoria to Brighton. Being a poor student at the time I couldn't afford a taxi so walked back to Worthing. Back about 4.00 am I think.

The day we beat Newcastle to get into the old Div 1. left Worthing at 6.00am Saturday stopped in Newark for a meal and drinks on the way home, just to name drop drinking with Gerry Fells dad, so he said, and had to keep stopping coz had too much to drink and arrived back in Worthing at 9.00am absolutely knackered.

The stupid things you do when young like drinkiing and driving now I will not even have 1 pint and drive as I realise I have been so lucky to not kill myself and my passengers or get nicked.
