I'd be up for this. Not sure it's practical to have the band go the whole way but as the walkers arrive at the end of their walk from The Goldstone, band should be there playing GOSBTS.

Don't personally fancy dragging up Ditchling Road, but OSR, Upper Lewes Road and Lewes Road work for me. (ugly but flat!). Also takes me past Bighton Uni which will bring back happy memories of the lecture room at Mithras ;)

Just used Women's Running to plot the route (very clever kit) and they reckon the OSR/Lewes Road route is nigh on exactly 5 miles. And downhill or flat most of the way - so very doable for the old crocks that will remember The Goldstone.

As it's a women's running map, do the pink blobs indicate toilets?

Via Withdean would be a mile longer (so what) and a lot of big hill (hmmm) and unnecessary in my view. But here's a possible route usings Ev's route across Stanmer.

There is a chap who posts on here under the username of Alex Dawson who said on the opening day of the season at Falmer that he will walk from the Old Goldstone via Withdean to Falmer.I think that was a brilliant idea and if he is still up for that i would love to join him.

My son and I will be doing this and you're very welcome to join us; the current plan A involves a brief stop off en-route at the Sportsman (should I book now there's three of us?) and possibly the Hiker's Rest in Coldean.
It doesn't bother us how many there are but I cringe slightly at the thought of a band and/or something being "formally" organised - eg by the club. For me it's a very personal thing; I've been watching the Albion home and away for 50 years and this will be the only time I've been to the site of the Goldstone Ground since the club left, apart from when my dad's funeral cortiege briefly stopped there in 2003. He stopped going in the early 90's as the ground was allowed to rot and never believed Falmer would be built (or the plans approved). We forsee the day as one of joy when the boil that is Archer/Belotti/Stanley is finally lanced but also a time for quiet reflection, thought and respect for all those fans who, like my dad, won't be there.

I appreciate it's a personal thing, and I agree that it shouldn't be organised by the Club. I like you have never been back to the site since the day I walked out of the Doncaster game, but I would be very keen to do this too, together with my son.

For me it will be 'closure' - a new era, and whilst we will never forget The Goldstone, we will have a far, far brighter future at The Amex.

Like you, I too have lost my father since 1997, and even though he wasn't an Albion Fan, he took me to my first game there when we moved to Sussex, so I feel I have him at least partially to thank for my love of the Club.

Some valid responses here, I will be doing it anyway in honour of my father who took me to my first game in 1980, very much like your father M3W4 It was the first game of the season against Wolves which we won 2-0 I believe just after we moved here from Jockoland.

My dad passed away approx 2 years ago but involved himself in the marches etc during our plight. This is a real chance for ourselves to put us on the football map that we are back and I'm sure this would give us the media attention that we all as one deserve. Not just a 2 minute Meridian/BBC South slot letting everyone know (I can see the quote now - "well moving on from Portsmouths defeat we understand Brighton have a new stadium, now over to the weather).

Don't want to gatecrash anyone's personal plans. But I would definitely be interested in joining others who want to do the walk before the first league game.

It will be a lovely summer day with the sun shining on the Albion in Brighton.

(a couple of refreshment stops for a cold beer may be required!)

We will all have some very personal thoughts when we gather near the Goldstone. It'll be my 1st time back too and will exorcise an evil spirit from that part of our city.

Eventually i hope that there will be some sort of marker at the Goldstone that now, with falmer built, will no longer be an area to avoid.

Would still never shop there though!

WD....as for everyone, great if you can make it. Without trying to 'up' this too much, but I will. This will be our day for everyone together to make the pilgrimage to our new home. Just think what we achieved with the march from Madeira Drive to the Brighton centre but now this time in a carnival atmosphere. Unprecedented I believe but will stand corrected if another club has arranged and carried out a larger (friendly) protest

Its a one off, if we don't do it I think we'll miss a major day that truly is our own !!!!

Our D-Day 27-07-2007. The day our battle was won

The day our WAR was won Jimbo. I'm sure this will grow nearer the time but for now, I'm pleased to say that I'll be walking with you.

I'd love to be joining you guys on your march but I did all the painful ones: B'ton Station to The Goldstone and the ones to the Conference Centre. On August 6, 2011 I'm going to be partying the day away before kick off.
