When we move to The Amex/Falmer

Dear All

Seen a couple of threads on here about the Lord Mayors show on TV yesterday which I too watched. All very impressive stuff when towards the end of the show I thought my ears were playing tricks on me when I started to hear the faint sounds of GOSBTS which were getting louder and louder and louder.

I don't know about anyone else but when the Christs School Band came around the corner at The Bank, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up hearing them blasting it out with pride, boy they were blasting those drums.

This kind of got me thinking about our first game at The Amex/Falmer (use your named preference). My suggestion for the first match is to hold a march from The Goldstone (meeting in Hove Park) to our spanking new stadium with the band up front leading us. Publicity wise it will show we are well and truly back. When we were marching in our attempts to get the stadium, we were always featured in most of the media, be it TV or press regarding our plight. Here we have a chance to show exactly what fan power can achieve.

Thoughts anyone (sorry but dont know how to set up a poll option)

I'd be up for it but I doubt the police would appreciate having to close all the roads in central Brighton on a Saturday in august for no reason.

I appreciate what your saying there Notters, its a fair point, but we seem to have our roads closed most weekends for all sorts of events. This remember will be our day after all these years and that should be a major consideration. For example and there is no offence intended but they close the roads at that time of year for Pride every year, so why not a one off for us.

The route could be pretty simple not affecting the city centre (i.e along The Ols Shoreham Road, down New England hill, over Preston Circus up to the junction of Ditchling road, along upper Lewes Road joining Lewes Road at the Vogue Girotory (spelling ?) then along the Lewes Road to our new home

Hmm lets look at the route. Old Shoreham road to Preston Circus. Viaduct Road all the way along Upper Lewes Road, then all the way along Lewes Road to Stammer Park and onto towards The Drove B2123 and on to Village Way. Sorry no I think not. I don't think marching them up the Droveway and over Dyke Road etc would work either. Nice thought though.

A delegation of all the fans that couldn't get tickets to go and camp out on Bill Archer's driveway waving "We Made It!" placards .

Yeah, yeah. I really should get a life and move on.

I think some on here had previously talked about walking from The Goldstone to the Amex. Doubt it can be done with the band leading the way, but would be good for the band to play at the Amex on the day.

There is a chap who posts on here under the username of Alex Dawson who said on the opening day of the season at Falmer that he will walk from the Old Goldstone via Withdean to Falmer.I think that was a brilliant idea and if he is still up for that i would love to join him.

I will be joining him too ... and hopefully lots more ... band or no band.

It is a very appropriate way to highlight our struggles of the past decade.

Technically, you should include Gillingham on the route.

I was thinking the other day that I would be up to doing a sponsored walk for the REMF (hopefully with a few other like minded nutters) starting at the Goldstone, walking to the Priestfield, then to Withdean, then to Falmer. Google maps says it's about a 20 hour walk between Brighton and Gillingham so it would probably have to be done in 2/3 days staying over somewhere in the middle (like Tunbridge Wells or Maidstone).

What say some people to that?

EDIT: Started typing before that lot ^^ :p

WTF your route knowledge is awful, why would you need to go up The Drove (B2123) / Village way for

Presumably to get to the stadium  unless you want them to go over the new station bridge?

Just a route idea, I have walked this before to take Falmer Pictures, going via Stanmer Park then the subway under the A27 and the new bridge. The only problem I can see is the crossing of the A23, but i'm sure you lot will find some more.
