What a terrible feeling it is.

Today i had to have my old greyhound put down.

He'd made it to 14 which was a grand old age for a greyhound.

I'll sadly miss me old mate.

I'm very sorry to hear you've lost your old mate. You've made the most courageous and unselfish decision to put his quality of life first but it doesn't make the loss of him any easier.

we had to have our cat put down a couple of years ago which had been with us since the kids were born.

I stayed with her whilst the vet put her out of her pain ( she had cancer ) I was in a terrible state when I came out of there

Did you replace her after a while though ? I've found that after a suitable period of grieving getting another pet works wonders.

Thanks to all, much appreciated.

Even at 14 he still ran around thinking he was still a race dog.

Today he lay down in the sun and he just could'nt get pick his weary old self up again.

I think he lasted to such an old age because when he was racing he was a chicken and would move out of the other dogs ways so he didn't get bumped :lolol:

I think next time i'll get a goldfish.

My parents dog died when she was 16, and I was 11. That hurt like you wouldn't believe. That was the first experience of death I remember.

Sorry to hear the bad news TB. As Clippedgull said, at least it's out of pain now.

It's very sad. I have a 13 year old MOGGY who can't have too much milage left in her... :( Will be gutted the day she pops off to the big litter tray in the sky.

Or do pets join us in HEAVEN? One for all the CHRISTIANS out there; do pets go to heaven?

I'm hearin ya there mate.

I had to walk away for a cry before i sat down with him as the vet was about to have him put down.

I didn't want to be bawlin as he was put down as animals sense that kind of thing.

Lancing!! Sompting actually!
Feel for you there.

We had to have our boy (avatar), put to sleep last October, everyone who knew him was devastated, especially me, as it was like losing a best friend. It was a week before his 14th birthday, we got him from the rescue and was with us nearly 10 years, good ones though.

Got two 9 year old Border Coliies now, but, still miss him.

Very true. :D

It's just when they pass away it's alot smaller hole to dig( unless ya flush poor old flipper down the loo).

Best thing is to leave a bit then head off to the Canine Defence League and make two beings very happy

If the goldfish had a snorkel, a hairy back, tired eyes, an underwater kennel, a towel hidden around the back of it's 18ft bowl, card-playing paws and a bone in it's mouth, i'd consider it my cleverest pet thus far, and ready at any time for a game of frisbee down the local park. I would of course feed it half-living catfish.

Sorry to hear of your pet's burial.
Hope no Pet Semetary thoughts spring to mind.
