When did (night) clubs stop making blokes wear strides to get in?

Those of us of a certain age will remember Saturday nights were all about dressing up for a night on the pull & then having to face the inspection of the bouncers at places like Sherry's, (then the Coconut) or Buzby's. You had to have shoes on as well, as trainers always meant an early night, or a long wait for your mates in Grubbs!
So when did it happen that you didn't have to get done up likes a dogs dinner to get in somewhere?

Also, if you have any, post pics of those 80's Saturday night outfits!

The birth of Acid House? Everyone went casual and trainers became fashionable. Then again, there was a reaction against that a few years later. Now it depends on where you go I suppose.

I actually didn't know what strides meant until someone above mentioned it!

At 23 when I started going out generally only rule was smart black shoes were essential without them you wouldn't get in and no hoodies unless it was going in the cloak room.

Now it's pretty much what ever you want, Damn GREENS!! ;)

I never went to clubs that had that sort of dress code, even in the 80s it seemed outdated to me.

Hungry Years, The Basement, The Catfish and The Underground for me back then (and before The Underground, the basement of the Restoration)

I had no idea that trousers were often called strides before reading this thread...

There are still clubs in (generally inner suburban) Dublin which require you to wear shoes and a shirt

They're generally inhabited by absolute degenerates in Primark shoes, Dunnes Stores shirts and a Ben Sherman jumper on top of them; have the worst fights imaginable and the highest chance of ambulances outside by about 11pm....

I haven't gone on a night out wearing smart shoes (black tie occasions notwithstanding) for about five years
