I know the defeat has scarred lots of you deeply, but to label us as donkeys is silly.
We were top or very close to it for most of the season , until Holloway nearly mucked up.
The likes of Speroni, Ward, Delaney, Jedinak,Zaha's, Murray, and Bolaisie are now established in the PL, so maybe they aren't as bad as you're making out..

Youre right, but, we had a team that was at least the equal of the side you had, we also had the advantage of a goal less draw at Selhurst going into the game.
Big games between two equally matched teams are decided on small percentages,avoidable mistakes occurring prior to that game cost us our crack at the Premier League

I think pandering to Poyet's ego after winning League One is where it went wrong.

With no one to pull him to heal, I personally think he made decisions like Murray wasn't good enough, wanted to break the transfer record for a player that was never going to fit his system, started splashing money left right and centre, then starting writing off our own young players.

It was his capriciousness in the transfer market that I believe led Bloom to believing he needed someone like David Burke to control recruitment, that ultimately led to even more poor decisions in both the players we've let go, and the dross we have bought in.

Poyet's outrage at being reigned in ended with his toys out of the pram unprofessional unloyal behaviour during our play off effort. Whoever came in after was dealing with a fall out of huge proportions, and the more I look back on it, the more Oscar Garcia convinces me that he achieved far more in getting to the play-offs with what he had than Poyet had achieved the season before.

We all thought (me included!) that Gus was the messiah. He rescued us from doom, transformed our style of play, won a league title, but with that came an ego and a self destructive trait that is all too evident in what has happened to him since.

For me, allowing Gus so much power after winning League One is where we went wrong. He was pandered to, spoilt even, and like any spoilt child, he ultimately throw it back in our face.

Barber has had absolutely no impact on the playing side for me.

Fell apart? Jesus you lot need to get some perspective.

Your biggest mistake is treating the Championship with contempt. You see it as a stepping stone to the PL, it's an inconvenience, you were on a roll and none of the two Bob teams in the Championship would or could stop you. Hell, half of you thought it was destiny.

Since you've been promoted you've had two play offs and a season of poor/mediocre football. You do realise that there are 23 other teams trying to either get promotes or avoid relegation. It's a cliche but it's a damn hard league to climb out of and you need a little luck.

You did well with Gus but that wasn't enough. You're "destiny" hadn't been fulfilled. You spent the next season thinking you would push on for automatic promotion. Slating Oscar all the time, you realised too late he was actually quite good at his job.

So here you are mid table obscurity, what a disaster . Try spending more time appreciating the championship, how hard it is to get out of and getting behind your team. You might then get somewhere

I think this perfectly summaries our very recent past & present.

this led to a chain reaction of events

Poyet thinking he was too good for Brighton

OG turning up and leaving pronto

I had to put Hiring Oscar - Not because I actually think he was to blame but because that was the point we regressed. Putting the playoff defeat is a bit mad, we didn't regress because we lost to Palace we failed because we reached the point where Poyet and the club fell out and we then needed to hire someone the club could work with to achieve the boards aims. So you could just as easily blame Poyet but the club HAS to be bigger than the manager and therefore Poyet HAD to go and it was at that point the board failed to hire a manager they could work with.

So thats why I put Oscar. Whilst the blame was the boards (they hired him!) he wasn't very good but the board went and hired someone even worse and even now have hired someone around the same calibre as Oscar. If they don't give him a transfer kitty that matches their Premier expectations CH will fail - you can't blame a good manager if he hasn't got the squad to work with

And to the Palace fan who thinks we are arrogant and treat the championship with contempt that is not the case, in the playoffs we were the form team, we had held out for the draw in the first leg these opportunities don't come along everyday. It was more the way we completely capitulated that hurt and more so as it was against you but it didn't matter who it was we were the architects of our own downfall and that's what really hurts. This season we were/are in danger of slipping out of the championship so that why we are bitching most of the talk of Premier league is a dig at the club and the way it's been managed not arrogance towards the championship, like most on here I love the championship.

That night against palace in the play offs. That was a massive turning point for the short term future of the club. The defeat and the aftermath of poyet leaving, the delay in replacing him lead to everything where we are now. If we had won that tie I swear we would have gone up and then really kicked on. But now we need to go again, this summer is vital.......

I take the point but the poll doesn't have an option for the failure of the board - its looking for incidents or managers to blame - what about selling Ulloa then?? things like this are too big to be labelled "other"

'Wasn't very good', no he was far far better than that. I still say not backing Oscar in the January window and then letting him walk have been blooms biggest failings. The job Oscar did in getting us to the play offs despite having important players sold, a huge injury problem and not knowing the league, was superb
