Anybody who would take Kuyt over Berbatov is presumably somebody who thinks Tommy Fraser is fit to play in the top five divisions of English football and Alex Revell is a top striker.

Aw, come on. That's not what I was saying - I was highlighting two different types of player.

Ability/technique. Everything else is secondary, although 'confidence' would probably top the B-List.

Not the most important, but one I appreciate nonetheless, is the ability to play the game at your own pace, and ultimately dictate the tempo of the match. Glenn Murray (and his Premier League counter-part), even as strikers, do this very well. But Zidane probably mastered it better than anyone, alongside being the midfield "string-puller"..

Juan Roman Riquelme also does it very well.

Players who can pull a rabbit out of a hat, out of nothing, they show a moment of brilliance that is out of this world. Examples of such players are Robben at Bayern Munich last season in the Champions League, Nasri this season for Arsenal, and Henry in the past for Arsenal.

Workrate of Bennett, hardness of Oatway/El-Abd, footballing brain of Messi and club loyalty of Giggs. Not that I'm picky

Sorry, I know you weren't saying you'd take Kuyt over Berbatov. But there are people on this site who would.

It depends though, doesn't it. If I was wanting to support Torres up front, I very well may choose Dirk over berba, but if you wanted a sole striker, then "the moody one" would probably be preferable.

club loyalty of Giggs. :

Not sure that's the best example of loyalty. To start off at the biggest club in the world, he's been there 20 years, I estimate in that time he's taken out about £70m in wages alone, plus other endorsements, and a mansion on his home patch.

For me, loyalty is people who have stayed with their home-town club, or a particular team/manager having turned down bigger-money offers from 'bigger' clubs. I don't think Giggs has ever seriously been tempted away, apart from once by Inter Milan, when he got a huge pay-rise.

Cock without a shadow of a doubt!!

What's the point of being a footballer if you don't smash loads of page 3 model's back doors in?

It depends. Mainly it is players who do things you could never do. A good touch, a telling pass, but I do also like a bit of commitment.

I don't like John Terry - but when he went to use his head to block in the World Cup - I did like that.

Exactly this... The pleasure in watching Berbatov bring down a 40yard pass over his shoulder is beautiful. Bergkamps goal against Argentina in the 98 world cup too. I would also add Henry to this too.

That Bergkamp v Argentina one is probably the best goal I've ever seen, in terms of technical ability.

Beaten only possibly by another Bergkamp goal, when he managed to pull off that insane turn as he touched it round a defender, if he meant it it was definitely the cleverest bit of skill I've ever seen.
