I think this hits too many nostalgia points for me so I'm immune to it's cringe! At the time it came out I was a teenage Sisters of Mercy/Cure/Cult/Fields of the Nephilim fan on nodding terms with Cliff because he was a fairly regular visitor to the shop I worked in and I'd occasionally see him out and about. One Christmas, probably the year this was released, I saw him sing it without any musical accompaniment for a group of women of advancing years after he switched on the lights on a local Christmas tree. That should probably amplify the cringe but like I say, a song that brings back too much nostalgia for that time of life between childhood and adolescence that I heard referred to "old enough to comprehend but still young enough to dream"!

I liked AA at the very beginning, great Top Rank Suite gig.

Then the sell out chasing the quick buck and this cringy dirge matched by this film studio over production nonsense.

Great song, great video. They're both *supposed* to be campy and overblown.

this was my first thought when I saw the thread title... but the Reading song has plunged new depths that I previously thought were not possible.

Who commissioned it? Who wrote it? Who produced it? Who released it? How do so many people get so much wrong?!?!?
