I think this hits too many nostalgia points for me so I'm immune to it's cringe! At the time it came out I was a teenage Sisters of Mercy/Cure/Cult/Fields of the Nephilim fan on nodding terms with Cliff because he was a fairly regular visitor to the shop I worked in and I'd occasionally see him out and about. One Christmas, probably the year this was released, I saw him sing it without any musical accompaniment for a group of women of advancing years after he switched on the lights on a local Christmas tree. That should probably amplify the cringe but like I say, a song that brings back too much nostalgia for that time of life between childhood and adolescence that I heard referred to "old enough to comprehend but still young enough to dream"!
