I'd go along with that Trig.
I think Hinshelwood does need to improve on his distribution though.
When he considered his position and looked up and played some shorter passes he looked very assured. A lot of the time though he tries to play longer passes which just don't come off.
I'm not sure sometimes whether he's trying to play a killer ball or just clearing his lines
Hmm am I the only one who thought Roberts could have done better for the goal? Also had a bit of a mix up towards the end with Hinslewood needing to clear it.
Roberts 7 - Generally looked good but a couple of dodgy moments
Watson 6 - Not great. Still got the habit of giving the ball away when we are defending a one-goal habit
Mayo 7 - solid - went down like a sack of shit to get their guy sent off.
Cullip 8 - Legend, as always
Hinshelwood 8 - Thought he looked v. comfortable at the back
Carpenter 7 - Worked hard as always. Never gave them any room
Rodger 7 - Controlled midfield well but distribution didn't seem like it was last year.
Jones 6 - OK but think we need someone else on the left....
Hart 7 - Brilliant cross for 1st goal and improved all-round in 2nd half
Knight 9 - sign him up
Henderson 7 - Poor start but looked much better in 2nd half, set up 2nd and had a couple of good efforts on goal
I always feel for keepers when goals like that go in. Ordinarily you would expect an attacker to get something on a cross like that so Roberts would have looked well silly if he had completely followed the flight of the ball.
My ratings from a pub in Bristol......
Roberts - 8 came out well on a couple of times to save well. Looked better on crosses than he did at Bristol Rovers.
Mayo - 7 solid play and made a few key interceptions.
Cullip - 9 outstanding game, nothing looked like getting past. Looked better in the air as well and wasn't troubled as much by a bigger man.
Hinshelwood - 7 thought he had a decent game.
Watson - 7 always an option for the midfield and solid defensive work
Hart - 7 great cross for the first goal, as always worked hard and looked dangerous running at people
Rodger - 8 some great touches and link play and midfield. Can go a bit unnoticed at times because he does the simple things so well
Carpenter - 7 solid in midfield, created quite a bit.
Jones - 7 absent in the first half but had a better second half creating a couple of openings.
Henderson - 7 again, a bit quiet in first half but had a bit more impact in the second half. Great header on for second goal.
Knight - 9 two great goals, never stopped working and running and whenever he had the ball at his feet with face to goal he brought fear into the QPR defence. A gem of a find me reckons. Also created things.
Roberts- Really Commanded his Box, looks safer that FDM- 7
Watson- Thought hes was poor passing was off- 5
Mayo- OK better 2nd half- 6
Cullip- 8 Superb as ever
Hinshelwood- Looked comfertable 7
Rodger- Had a sound game- 7
Carpenter- Played very well 2nd and our most underrated player 7
Jones- Did look dangerous 7
Hart- Made 1st goal and always working hard 8
Knight- what can I say- 9
Henderson - 1st touch was poor but made 2nd goal 7
I agree with most of the comments above but i cannot give watson 6/7. His problem is not a lack of ability, but more a lack of concentration. He simply makes to many errors which put himself and the team under pressure , and unlike Cullip for example he does not have the pace to recover the position.
Roberts was brilliant - if a little over confident at times. Watto I'm afraid has continued where he left off last season. The rest of the back four were great. Hinsh was magnificent bar one error. As someone else said, it proved how well Jolly was playing when he came off and we started getting overrun. Jonah had a good game, as did Harty - his run and cross for leon's first was almost Kanchelski-ish in its execution!!
Henderson held the ball up well although he faded towards the end - I would have liked McPhee to come on at that stage to give their tiring defence more to worry about. As for Knight he was awesome - 3 headers in two games from a 5'4 centre forward!! and that shot from 25/30 yards - he got a good shot for a little feller. I'm glad we've started negotiations with him - that's the best news I've had in ages!!
Cant argue with a 2-1 win over one of the best teams in the division but down to 10 men and missing Ainsworth, Gallen and Langley suggests we will never get a better chance than that. Jury is still out for me on our chances this year.
Last nights ratings
Roberts : 7 Needs too many touches to kick it - Will get caught out sooner or later. Great stop on the one on one.
Watson : 7 Great touch to Hart for the 1st goal. Looks more at home in Div 2.
Cullip : 9 Good as ever
Hinshelwood : 6 : Wouldn't mind betting that the man who broke free for the 1st goal was his. Got away with slipping on his ar$e later on also.
Mayo : 9 : Solid but unspectacular, however gets a 9 for getting the QPR man sent off. Was butted and there is clearly a 10 second delay whilst he thinks 'If I go down he will get sent off' Quality.
Jones : 5 : I like Jones but thought he was poor. Blatant Penalty dive and constantly losing the ball through misplaced passes and attempted dribbling. Glad to see the step over though.
Rodger : 7 Get that hair cut.
Carpenter : 7 Everywhere in midfield, worked tirelessly.
Hart : 8 : Great cross for the 1st goal, work ethic excellent.
Knight : 9 : Sign him up now!
Henderson : 7 : All elbows and arms, will get booked constantly. Good late shot and knock down for second goal though.
Roberts 8 - disagreee with a lot of what has been said - very assured, toyed with the QPR strikers, much better than Kiupers
Watson 7 - kept slipping up but still much better than last season
Mayo 8 - 'he's a division one wing back!'
Cullip 9 - assured and powerful
Hinshelwood 7 - makes the occassional, but often goal-ceding mistake
Rodger 6 - looked knackered and ineffective after about 60 mins
Carpenter 7 - solid
Jones 6 - just not sure really
Hart 9 - although looked knackered at the end
Knight 9 - amazing
Henderson 5 - a cart horse, but couple of good touches
(Oatway 7 - simply for that bungling tackle that led to a free kick to us!)
