That's a good shout. But at least there's an atmosphere. You can hear a mouse fart at West Ham. And, as an additional point, that was never the case at Upton Park which was one of the best away days.

I would still be absolutely gutted if I was a Westham fan having to leave Upton Park for the London Stadium. Upton Park was a proper ground, with a great atmosphere. The London stadium is not.

It's funny people praising Hackney Wick, my mother in law moved there 25 years ago and even once the Olympics emerged it was a waste land. There was one greasy spoon and a chicken shop, miles of warehouses and my wife never used the station due to the frequent knifings. It is now unrecognisable, apartment blocks, venues and clubs, restaurants and bars, floating cafés and pop up eateries. Saying that last night they closed Hackney Wick Station and it was an extra 45 minute walk for me to reconnect to public transport to get back to Walthamstow.

Mrs Gwylan used to work near Hackney Wick and says the same thing. It's an unbelievable change in twenty odd years.

You might have seen from other threads I was far from impressed with West Ham. With its ex athletics stadium feel and poor location, not to mention incredible expense, the ground is a terrible experience.

Essex must have been empty last night. I’ve never seen so many Zavetti coats and flat caps.

And then there was the total lack of atmosphere and the huge gap between top and bottom away tiers.

But is this recency bias? Are there worse trips? Do we just put up with Palace because of the rivalry? Is there a particular grief hole you loathe or somewhere where a trip went totally tits up?

For me it's not. The atmosphere is twenty times better (it was terrible in the lower tier last night) and a 'nice' policeman takes you back to the station so you don't get lost!

Watching on the tellybox last night we sounded really loud, particularly in the last 15-20 minutes. West Ham were as quiet as chuch miceys nearly all game. WHU have always been a noisy bunch. Another example of "traditional" fans being priced out and replaced by football tourists?

More likely West Ham had nothing to sing about last night.

The old Northampton ground when it was 3 sided and shared with the cricket ground. I saw us in the cup there a few years ago (1987). Haven’t been to Sixfields though.

I always found Newcastle really overwhelming, it's right in the centre of town which is easy from a place you don't know perspective but it also meant that there were people absolutely everywhere all of the time. I always found it really packed and busy - and that was before you climbed into the sky for their away section.

I still don't know how they continue to get away with that away section. It means the ground is entirely home fans in terms of atmosphere, and the away team are on their own in terms of their own fans getting behind them.

Apparently there are 'safety reasons' but they've had ample time and resources to sort it out.

I recall watching Leon Knight score in a 3-1 win up there, but it was in August, so perfectly clement. Just checked - 2003.

Stoke for me. my memory of that place is it being like a wind tunnel in there even on a relatively calm day

Specially designed to literally suck rain out of the sky, chill it to a bracing 4 degrees, and spritz it horizontally with force into the away fans' faces, even on a warm and sunny day.

The County Ground..shared with the cricket club..very fond memories for me. The largest stand had to be pulled down as was wooden and deemed a fire risk..they replaced it with what looked like meccano! Sixfields is ok..a bit non league and not helped by an East Stand which has remained half built for a decade after the previous owner lost the development £’s.

Watford always seemed to be another street away and then when you got there it was a 2 mile hike round some allotments - and I was always running late.

The Overground was suspended due to a tree on the line, so in some respects you were lucky, as if on a train when the tree went down you could have been stuck for sometime.

Newcastle,how the fk do they still get away with sticking the away fans up there when the rest of the EPL have to provide pitch side areas other than that excellent away day.

Selhurst is shite nowadays,for sheer crap overall away day experience I'd award that to Gillingham,just a horrible place even though it did enable us to still have a ground to play on.

Surprised no-one has mentioned Yeovil yet.
Ground is in the middle of nowhere, public transport is shit, parking is a nightmare to get out of, the whole experience is crap.

This! I was on page 2/4 and wasn’t surprised it came up

Middle of no where, away end has no cover from the elements and the crusade up that hill / mountain from the nearest away pub when full of beer is far from ideal.

Would have also said Priestfield but we used to catch a coach up there as a group of 13 year olds unsupervised so has a charm element to it for us anyway! That aside for ease, they should twin it with Jaywick
