The second you go to having wide wheels and low sidewalls, even on not particularly fast cars, the tyres become obscene price-wise. Add that to bigger wheels and you've got an empty wallet fast.

I usually pay about £80 or £90 per tyre for a Focus.

Could probably go slightly cheaper, but tyres are one thing I'm really not prepared to skimp on. There's only about twenty square centimetres of rubber per wheel that keep you on the road, so I prefer to give myself the best chance of staying that way.

Well quite. When I got back into the office, I mentioned the cost of them to another chap, who has a similar company car, and he said, "Yeah they're well steep - I got them to put budget ones on".

We pay for them, then put an expenses claim in that gets settled within a week, but he didn't want the money going 'out of his account'.

What an absolute knob.

I've not put budget tyres on any of my cars, though I suppose some are probably better than others, and I accept that not everyone can afford the main brand name makes. When I see people getting remoulds and the like, I wince. I probably replace mine earlier than most people do, once they get below about 3mm I'm starting to think about new ones (the limit being 1.6mm). It amazes me the lengths some people will to go to to protect their kids, and yet when I speak to them, they're driving around with bald tyres on their car and the kids in the back.

I suppose I do see more crashes than most (no, not in my rear view mirror :p ).

Today, I spent £25 on a new Sky remote control.
TWENTY-FIVE QUID

The old one was shite. You had to MASH the 'select' button in for it to function. The 'Up'button was pretty much a writeoff, and I had to have long, rhythmic, borderline erotic persuasions of the red R button in order for it to eventually consider whether or not to accept my desires to actually record something a bit later.

Twenty-five nicker on something that is expensive, needed, but dull. Its up there with new tyres on the motor - that could've gone towards a decent night out.

So whats the CACKEST thing you've had to buy lately, and deeply resented it ?

If you see a sky man in a van he will normally replace for a tenner. I've done it a couple of times

Will your insurance cover that, out of interest?

Was it damaged when it was stolen or did you get it back more or less as you left it?

I having the same issue now, sons moped was stolen last night and recovered this morning.
As he is 16 TPFT has an excess of £500, moped is worth less than that so no brainier.
Third party only.

It was recovered a couple of street from home In Brighton and recovered to Shorham,
Not only have we got to go to Shorham to collect it but can't ride it due to damaged caused and pay you lot £100's for taking there. Rather you had told us where it was to we could have collected it ourselves.
Wonder why these is resentment towards the police.
Ps you never found it, someone phoned you to say it was there.

My brother went on holiday to America and was to stay in a hotel with his wife and then go on a cruise. At the hotel in America they could not find their passports they phoned the nearest embassy and they were told if they made it there they would be issued new passports. They could not go by train as apparently they ask to see your passports. They had to go by taxi 300 miles to get new passports at a cost of £700. They continued their holiday only to be stopped all the time as they may have using the stolen passports. They duly arrived home and applied for new passports.
Two weeks later they found the old passports in one of the suitcases.

Not one transaction but I look back at the money I spent over the years smoking and think what a waste. It must be well into the thousands I literally put up in smoke.

More depressing is that there is nothing you get out of it.

yes there is, Lung Cancer

£238 for a tiny cupboard door as it is an odd size and has to be hand made. Tried to find cheaper quotes (this was the landlords quote) but literally couldn't find anything - I tried buying wood and getting a mate to cut it etc etc but every option was more. If it had been any other door it would have been £40 tops.

The most annoying thing is it was me being an idiot and kicking the door after I just dropped my iphone smashing the screen the day after I replaced it. That was only £50.

Anger issues cost you dear....

I didn't do anything, for your information. I was out for dinner last night, and then I went home to bed.

I spent £275 on my car to get it ready for a driving holiday in North Wales, service, new tyres etc. Got t-boned by a Mondeo on the first day of our holiday, and wrote the car off.

£1300 on fencing whilst it desperately needed doing it is one of those purchases that will never bring you any joy. I am dreading the day I have to pay for a new boiler another ludicrously expensive and dull purchase.
