How do you get into the stunt industry? Do you need to be an actor first? Are there stunt schools you can apply for?

Well I got interested in it while acting, mainly through meeting and chatting to stunt guys on a couple of sets. While knowing people in stunts does help there's no getting around the training. I'm only at the beginning of a stunt career, bottom of the rung but I train all the time and get a few jobs here and there on film while training, jobs on a low level. You need to specialise in a couple of disciplines, say sword and archery maybe but to get on the stunt register and start getting regular work you need 6 disciplines to a high standard.
It helps to maintain a good level of fitness, for example I do boxing training. This gives you the skill of boxing, one of your disciplines while keeping fit. Other people I know do gymnastics, another stunt skill and keeping fit. But make sure the skills you gain are eligible for the stunt register.
There's a couple of good schools in England, the BAA run a few in Guildford that are geared toward stunts for camera. Train and talk and meet people. Constantly!

But no, you don't need to act first but it does help being on film sets.

Ah, do you still work on craft? I've always been interested in planes and engineering of them but only so much you can do in your time.
No I left 15 years ago having gone into management becoming disillusioned with the idiots above( sad to say mainly graduates with very little experience)

and a fork-lift license...

I was wondering what the fklnp bit was on my license, and now i know..

Passed my gas exams last year. After many years of only being 'wet side' qualified, i took time to go to college and passed on 23rd Dec.

Quite bizarre having to do revision next to my two boys in the evenings.

Expired Microsoft Server 2003 MCSE, back when they were more difficult than now due to simulation questions rather than multiple-choice. Soon expiring Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 MCTS ones from the multiple choice era.

University of Life proved to be most useful in getting every job I've had so far but my degree (IT management) at least ticks some boxes on recruiter sorting systems.

It's still mostly multiple choice. I sat 70-461 a month ago (failed) and it was largely multiple choice. A few 'organise these code snippets' thrown in for good measure.

I know - I meant as opposed to the heavily simulator based era in the early-mid 2000s. Think it was entirely multiple choice in the NT4/2000 era but that's too long ago for me to have done them.

RICS – another one of those qualifications where nobody knows what the hell it means – unless you are in it. Still it did help me get a job in New York so guess it had its uses.
