With the weather as it is, it got me thinking. I've been really lucky in that in over 30 years, I've never even left home to go to a game that ended up being called off.

The closest I came was two seasons ago coming home from work I got off the train at Preston Park only to be told by some other fans coming back to the station that the game was off, so I just got back on the train and went home.

Whats the furthest distance anyone has travelled before finding out a game was off?

From Austria to Sussex for the Colchester game the other week (not my only reason for coming back but had planned my trip around the game). f***ing heaviest snowfall for 50 years can piss right off. But it didn't.

Bristol Rovers about 30 years ago - got to the ground to see the match was off. We then bumped into my old gym teacher who was walking his dog around the block.

Norwich in the cup about 5 years ago was a bit of a pisser too.

I was about to get on a train to Macclesfield about 15 years ago when the guard at Euston noticed my scarf and told me that the match was off - which was very sharp of him (I ended up going to Palace v Scunthorpe instead).

Bristol Rovers (last season?), was queuing up outside the 'Mem' when it was called off!

I went to Ikea and had meatballs to cheer myself up :)

Right here, right now
Norwich in the Cup a few years back. Luckily it was a corporate event so we had already eaten Delia's grub before they called it off. And we got invited back to the rearranged game as well!!

Halifax again for me. Stayed in the Portman and Pickles pub in the town centre and managed to win their pub quiz. Won a load of beer vouchers, so then made our selves very popular by using the couchers to buy the locals beer as they weren't much use to us.

Went to Hull for an FA cup match. Left Hove at 6am, pitch inspection circa 10.30. Luckily it was on

Ditto(ish), but Walsall and I think it was probably the season before last. Got up already in Walsall on the Saturday morning and everything was white!

The Grub's friend who we'd gone to see was ill as well, so it was a bit of a disaster of a weekend all round, only cheered up by the meatballs!

Newcastle away in about 1989/1990.

Travelled on an overnight coach - started snowing halfway up the M1 at about 2am. System started grinding to a halt. Eventaully rolled into Newcastle around 8am only to find more snow and game under threat. game eventually called off about 12.30 - Went to watch Berwick Rangers play in Scottish Div 2 instead

The furthest would have been the Bristol Rovers game, was staying in Bath and had just arrived at BTM's when heard the game was off.
I was also in the ground for the Norwich game in the FA Cup.

The only other time was Walsall last year where i was only in London, had planned to meet my girlfriend around 20:30 so decided to go and watch Fulham v Blackburn only for that to get called off whilst on the discrict line. Ended up seeing Charlton v Forest!

Bristol Rovers got all the way to the pub in Bristol a couple of season ago on a tuesday night for it to get called off.

Bristol Rovers game too - but in the seventies. Unsure which season it was, but sure it was a night game too.

Just seen Gwylam's post......
