With less tv coverage then, I've never seen those 14 goals, or the incredible away cup win at the highly rated WBA.

With 33,500 at the Goldstone it was widely considered to be several thousand more each time, as Bamber like most at the time allegedly fiddled takings from the VAT man. The immense crowds made it unforgettable, and Ward, Mellor, O'Sullivan and Horton rarely disappointed us.

Was fortunate enough to see all three games, I vaguely remember some booing at half time against Walsall too. The win at WBA is one of my all time favourite games, although it was a nasty wet rainy midweek evening game. In those days we genuinely reckoned we could beat anyone in a cup

Mate, you're not wrong. That night had everything; misty,foggy night, firecrackers from their lot in the South, OB & dogs going in there every 10 minutes. And,from an admittedly hazy memory, we deserved it. 2 great goals from the big man and the first double over them since the 50's! Hairs standing up on the back of the neck just thinking about it. 33k packed in there. Top, top night!
