Bluebell Railway isn't too far from Lewes, neither is the Laveneder Line at Isfield if your little uns won't take to 40 minute train journeys. I'd also recommend Rye though it can get a bit packed in summer.

tilgate park is good as it has animals and it is free

Have to agree. This has got to be a hidden treasure. Never heard of the place before, until one of my sisters (who lived in Crawley for a time) took me there earlier this year. Free. Mini zoo for kids lake setting lovely walks kiddie-friendly bars etc.

Pevensey Castle nr Eastbourne and a trip to Pevensey Bay/Normans Bay Beach is nice. Great pub next to the castle and the Star at Normans Bay is good in the summer for kids.

Don't go to Hailsham.

Is Treasure Island in Eastbourne still there?

I used to go there all the time as a kid.

Treasure Island is still there and they've done it up. A lot bigger and brasher but with less potential for injury, which seems a bit of shame :)

There's also Fort Fun/Rocky's along the seafront in Eastbourne. Kids seem to love it but it does attract the Asda element ... lots of king-size smoking mums with skin obscured by tattoos and jewellery.

Abbotts Wood (near Hailsham) deserves an honourable mention ... nice walks, a play area, barbies for hire and a lake, if you can find it. Nice pubs round Arlington too.

Bodiam Castle innit.

And while you're there make time for a trip on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. It runs 10.5 miles from Bodiam to Tenterden in Kent and is the longest full size steam railway in the South East. If you're really lucky the good looking bloke driving the engine might just be an NSCer!

Seriously, the two attractions do combine to make a good day out.

I agree went there a lot as a kid, although I got a bit sick of the place cos my parents took me there a lot. Its a great place though.
