Past it when he played here though, as was Joe Kinnear

He could run backwards quicker than any of the current squard can forwards:lolol:

showing my age but any of the players from 76 to 84 would easily beat any players of the last 10 years apart from Zamora into Brightons best eleven. The fact we had quite a few internationals at a time when caps weren't handed out like candy and not so many games.

The likes of Cullip compared to Foster, Lawrenson, Stevens, w Young, E Young, Rougvie, even Rollings. Different era very different class

A team that would comfortly sit mid table in the Premiership

surely its who you've seen. I can't comment on how good ward, lawrenson etc. were as i've never seen them. I'm sure they were better than todays lot but as i haven't seen them i can't comment!

Accepting that some of these are heart over head selections;

GK: Beeney
LB: Chapman
CB: Lawrenson
CB: Foster
RB: Stevens
MF: Case
MF: Sidwell (will join one of the very big boys I reckon)
MF: Horton
Behind front two: Gotsmanov
CF: Ward
CF: Zamora

Subs: Moseley, McShane, Danny Wilson, Steve Penney, Dean Saunders

Manager: Chris Cattlin

Stadium: The Goldstone, of course.

Not much width admittedly (gutted to have to leave Penney out but he couldn't play in such a narrow team) but with so much quality in midfield you wouldn't necessarily need it.

Seeing as I'm fairly young I'll do my team from the mid 90s onwards...

GK - Wayne Henderson
RB - Paul Reid
LB - Kerry Mayo
CB - Paul McShane
CB - Danny Cullip
RM - Gary Hart
LM - Paul Brooker
CM - Steve Sidwell
CM - Richard Carpenter
CF - Bobby Zamora
CF - Darius Henderson

Subs: Ben Roberts, Adam Virgo, Ivar Ingimarsson, Steve Foster, Joel Lynch, Zesh Rehman, Jeff Minton, Paul Rogers, Kurt Nogan, Trevor Benjamin, Leon Knight

That is about right. Maybe Clive Walker instead of Currie....
