i am a fervent Scotland fan, I was born there and my parents are Scottish and moved to Sussex when I was 8.

I am looking at this with the eyes of a neutral, if you can call it that.

You think things will go wrong for you in the same way that I thought we would screw up the play-offs.....

Every time it is our team we assume that something has to go wrong and that any type of excitement should be stopped as it is tempting fate.

I always felt safe as you always looked like you would choke on the big stage. However I think this time things are different. The so-called big teams are just simply not that any more. I pains me to say, but England look the best side out there. The Dutch probably won't turn up on the night, a very poor German side ran the Czechs ragged and the Portuguese will not match you up front. You have far too much for them, with Deco playing so deep, they will have the ball for long perids tonight but they will not hurt you.

I think the hardest game for you will be if you face the Swedish in the semis. They are well organised, fantastic attitude with a couple of world class players. Pretty much what you are.

I cannot believe that people still bang on about Figo, Vieri, Raul blah blah.......These guys never have and probably never will produce on the international stage.

Wow Diggers! That bears out fatbadger's comment yesterday that not all Scots are blinkered little nationalistic celtic racists. I agree with your analysis though, there isn't really one outstanding team and out of the last 8 and England have as much chance as anybody else, although I still have France as favorites. Now the matches are going to be won or lost on one stupid mistake or one bit of brilliance - and England are capable of both!

Good post. As a Scotsman I obviously have a lot in common with you. I wouldn't go so far as to say I want England to win but if they do win, fair play to them. What I would say is that I never really doubted England would lose to Brazil in 2002. Imho, England just weren't good enough. Let's face it you don't win a World Cup with Danny Mills in the team. However, i have a horrible feeling that this is going to be England's year. I cannot remember a stronger England team than this.

I would guess 2-1 to England tonight. I think a major problem for you could be if Holland get there act together. On their day they are awesome but on other days they can be pisspoor. I also think the cup is there for France to lose, ie if France play to the best of their ability for the rest of the competition they will win. I'm not sure they will though.
