Am just about to get my first car....looks like I will be choosing between a Golf V5 or a Seat Leon Cupra....one bonus of learning late is not having to put up with a shit heap for my first car.

Best first car on the thread has to be the Escort Mexico what a cool car for your first motor.

We've been discussing cars in the office today and I was surprised that my somewhat younger colleagues hadn't heard of my first car which was a old white "P" reg Vauxhall Chevette two door hatchback with red leatherette seats! I think I paid £995 for it (with a bit of help from my Dad) and bought it from Patcham Car Sales. I remember pulling the choke out to make it go faster!! :ascarf:

Datsun Sunny 84 plate.......a babe magnet at the time !

1983 Peugeot 305 (non turbo) diesel. Also impossible to change gear with anyone in the passenger seat - 2nd to 3rd was a clear two feet by the time I got rid of it.. in 1997.. with close on 300k miles on it.

Good times. :)

Way out west
MkII Ford Escort 1300, 1980, FPN 739V, bought it in the summer of 87 for £750. I sold it two years later for £650, by which time the sea air hadn't been kind and it had turned into a real rust bucket.

FMP 148J - Green Hillman Avenger - it was my dad's and when it failed its MOT requiring all coroded brake lines to be replaced and all the sills and floor pans had rusted through - "its all yours son" fix it and away you go.

By the time my mate as Sealink had finished welding plates all over it was built like a sherman tank - still, towed my race bike to Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Mallory Park, etc. for two seasons ....

Engine in the back like a Porsche 911 and just as dangerous, needed a bag of cement in the boot (front) to improve the handling ( I'm not joking!)

Loved this car and now worth a fortune, I sold it for £100

An Austin A40 of 1963 vintage.Good fairly reliable car for its time and the precursor to the modern day hatchback.Took me to many Albion games all over the country!
Eventually died of the rustbug.

H Reg Renault 10. Engine in the back, paving slab in the front boot to keep the wheels on the road in anything more than a gentle breeze. Soon followed by a Mark 1 escort - not a mexico but put two huge driving lamps on the front to make it look like one!
