What was the first Gig that you went too

Not sure about the first, but a very early one was on Friday 1 February 1963 at Maney Youth Club, Sutton Coldfield ...

... The Beatles. Three weeks after Please Please Me was first released as a single and three weeks before it reached number 1 or 2 in the singles chart (depending on which music paper you read).

Yep. It really was a youth club dance. They'd played at the Assembly Hall, Tamworth earlier in the day and were due to be bottom of the bill at a Helen Shapiro concert in Bradford the following day.

Think it was Feeder at the Brighton Centre

Feeder at the Brighton Centre was also an early gig of mine, just when they came out. Fainted from dehydration due to moshing and no drinking.

you lucky git, i was a bit too young to see the jam....my first gig was Style Council at Brighton Centre in '87...great at the time but looking back it was the start of the end for the band...see Paul Weller about 10 times since (i know im sad)

That Style Council gig in '87 was not the greatest.

You are certainly not sad for seeing Weller 10 times. I have seen The Jam/Style Council/Weller a total of 24 times so far.

It would have been the Hippodrome (how many of you remember that?) with the muti-act variety shows on a Sunday night around 1959/60. If Tommy Cooper and Frankie Vaughan don't count, them it would have been Susan Maugham or Adam Faith.

At least you're being honest - I feel some on here may be have selective memory!

I can top that though. Technically, my first gig was The Spinners (the Liverpool folk band rather than the better 'Detroit' Motown band) as I accompanied my parents when they had a spare ticket.

The first one I paid for was at Selhurst Park to see the Status Quo 'End of the road' farewell tour in 1983 when they were supported by the fairly impressive line up of Little Steven (aka Stevie Van Zandt of Springsteen and Sopranos fame), Dave Edmunds, Phil Lynott and the slightly less impressive but surprisingly entertaining, Chas & Dave.

That's right, it was. I don't remember too much about it, other than they were supported by the Piranhas and there was one punk there amongst a sea of mods, who seemed to last no more than 2 minutes near the front!!

And Weller lost his rag with all the beer throwing and the mini-fight that started mid-crowd; no change there then

Nice one. I remember making myself ill with anticipation and it was really touch and go whether my Mum was going to let me go.

I was in a seat and as soon as the opening chords of 'Dreamtime' came crashing across the PA all my ills were forgotten. November 5th 1980 as I remember; the first of a two night stint and the first of ten Jam gigs. Funnily enough, my daughter is wearing the t-shirt for the final one as we speak; a bit faded. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit me anymore.

Indeed - the 'Cost of Loving' Tour where he used be-mulletted session musicians and caused a few jaws to drop with his brand of white-soul. Thing is, that period gets a lot of stick but I think it stretched him musically and some of his classic solo albums can be traced right back to that stuff. I love the follow up album 'Confessions of a Pop Group' with all the Swingle Singers/MJQ/classical influence on it. Sometimes, most times, he gets it right. Other times very, very wrong but that's a thread on it's own and I think only you and me would write on it.

I saw Oasis there in 94 with primal scream and The Lars.

It wasn't primal scream it was Ride and the La's. They played Rock n Roll star twice once at the beginning and again as the encore.

Three of us were there then, all now early middle-aged, desperately wondering if a 19 year old winger will be joining our football club and talking about it on a space-age piece of equipment in the corner of a room in our house. Now that's what I call progress.

My First was the rollercoaster tour at Brixton academy in i think 92. Jesus and MAry Chain, Dinosaur Jr, My Bloody Valentine and blur. Awesome gig and my ears rang for a week after formt he my bloody valentine drum solo that went on for about 15 minutes.

Mine too, thought it was at the Top Rank, then again memory is a bit hazy about all the gigs I went to at the time plus I was a very pissed 15 year old at the time.
