Football in the playground with a tennis ball

Tennis ball football was BRILLIANT. Benches turned on their side for goals and using the walls of the fooball court to your advantage.

There was also the little tricks:

ie Jumping with the ball between your feet to flick it up before VOLLEYING it down field. It would cause mayhem.
Also the ROLLOVER was a skill much used. A tennis ball is much harder to maintain with close control so rather than knocking the ball on its side you would roll you foot over the ball and drag it with you.

God, I want a game of this now.

We didn't have benches so used piles of bags for each post, any scramble near the post would result in much (usually deliberate) destruction of stationery and textbooks. There was a fat kid that used to play and if he landed on your school bag you'd be looking at an expensive trip to WHSmith.

Scramble followed by a pencil case flying along the floor was the norm....

Sold a 1st edition Charizard for £36 quid. Massive money when you're that age.

Sold mine to a fat kid for £20, and even I thought I was mugging him off! Hang your head in shame/pat yourself on the back as applicable.

I also, rather jammily, got a shiny Zapdos in my first ever packet. True story.

Buying shoes which allowed you too balance the ball on the end of them was key

Its obvious from this thread that for some posters, school is still a recent memory!!

Yes - I was thinking more about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream (as in the Rock Group, not the dairy product) and Bobby Moore.

We used to play "knuckles" where the first person to give in after receiving a ridiculous amount of damage to their hands (via text books) would lose.

I'm actually cringing now thinking about the state of my hands at the end of the day. Horrendous.

Jacks. Wonder if anyone else knows what these were? Great fun! And marbles.

HovaGirl showing her age with jacks. Yes remember them. Also at the top of a steep hill and using a book(usually a thick annual) on to a single roller skate sit on it hold on to sides of book and down the hill we went. Always took the skin off the knuckles and the best way to stop was if i remember just lean to one side and fall off. Health and Safety have spoilt a lot of things.
