Sturridge looked very good, but was a little too far from the action. Jones, Fielding and Walker looked decent, and Lansbury when he came on.
I didn't think Henderson was that bad, but the other two in midfield were pretty poor, and i'm not sure Rose did anything all match

I have just read some reports from last night's game. Outpassed by Spain and out passed by Ukraine. And when the going got tough they resorted to muscle and pace....yawn. It looks as though the next generation will therefore slot seamlessly into the senior team then. f***ing rubbish.

Bulldog spirit....call me old fashioned but I've always valued talent over huff and puff. Talent seems to get you further as well. The whole f***ing thing is shit house. At least he'll cheaper than Capello. Failure at a reduced financial cost, I'm looking at the positives.

He will NEVER get the full England job (although, given the buffoons at the FA, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest).

Having a grooming system for managers for the international job just won't work these days. When (not if) one manager fails, the fans demand a complete change, so appointing the next in line is seen as just more of the same. It doesn't work. Besides, Pearce just isn't up to it.

Agreed, bulldog spirit has won us.....er one World Cup in 66 at home, before most of us can remember no doubt. So in a lot of our lifetimes this bulldog spirit has won us precisely FA....when even "minnows" like Greece, Denmark, Czechoslovakia have won the Euros at least. Give me a man with the talent of a Messi or an Iniesta with zero bulldog spirit all day long.

I would say that a good team spirit, with everyone working together is what won the Euros for Greece - they didn't have any particularly outstandingly talented individuals.

I think you are missing my point, I would rather have 11 players with zero bulldog spirit but oodles of skill than a team with oodles of bulldog spirit and zero skill (which is what the U21's and countless England sides over the past seem to have). As in my time this bulldog spirit has won nothing when even teams that many (in the press) would regard as well beneath England's ranking have won things.

Without wanting to start an argument about what "Bulldog spirit" means, Messi rides practically every tackle that goes in on him, and bounces up if he goes down, I rarely see him complain, he just gets on with it - and he gets more than his fair shaare of rough tackles.

However if you can run fast to chase down the goalkeeper or accidentally clatter a midfielder with a two footed studs up challenge who has owned you for the previous 30 minutes or more, then that is bulldog spirit.

I'm just waiting for [MENTION=457]sheebo[/MENTION] to come on here and put us right by reminding us how "incredible" our players really are, and not to forget that we haven't actually lost yet.

that was the real disssapointment last night. Under Peter Taylor, England played some really good stuff a la Gus, but our chances, what they were, involved a couple of hoof, a long range free kick and a corner....the rest was truly awful, I ended up switching over to watch Leicester Foxes playing 20/20 in Army Fatigues
