English, French and German.

I'm obviously fluent in English, my French and German are a little rusty purely due to lack of practice, but I've always had a knack for picking up foreign languages, so I suspect I would just need a little practice to get back to near-fluency.

I can get by with my English. I did Frech for 6 years and German and Latin for 2 years at school, but wouldn't say I could speak them. Languages are just not my forte, I'm more of a numbers man. Computing languages - those I can usually pick up pretty easily.

English, fluent
Dutch, fair standard conversational
French, passable (passed my O-level 20 something years ago)

Also fluent in drunkenese and bollox.

Edit - Does Dutch qualify me to say Flemish as well?

Thinking of learning Dutch, so I can pay homage to FDM in his native tongue

I did French, German and Italian at school years ago and have just started learning Dutch, but not for the reason above! :D

Whats with all the Dutch speakers / learners? Not normally a popular language to learn? I learnt it as my ex-wife was Dutch and her parents didn't speak English.

I find living here for 15 years has helped a bit in my case.

O-Levels in French, German and Latin. Can get by in France. A few well parroted phrases in Italian. Astonishing command of bar and menu Greek; occasional, amusing phrases in Bulgarian.

Arabic sadly confined to Allah-u-Akhbar, which, uttered immediately on boarding buses, will normally guarantee you a seat and plenty of room.

This thread is somehow depressing, because I suspect older posters may well have more language skills than younger ones. Thanks to 'New' Labour's philistine focus on education for the workplace. :nono:
