That's my point - it seems equally strange to me that someone might want to wear running shoes for things other than running, although I accept that lots of people do.
It does make me laugh, however, for example on a match day, when WSU is full of fat gits, kitted out in expensive and highly technical running shoes, many of whom look as though they can barely struggle up the stairs to the stand, let alone run...

Will sack my jogging bottoms since they were predominantly used lounging at home then, and the diver's watch goes straight in the bin.

Whilst I'm very much an adidas fanboy (see Superstars, Chile62, Sambas, new Beckenbauers and zx racers, here) my favourites of all right now are those black denim converse. They are ACE.

This. I wear running shoes when running but wouldn't wear them other than that. I don't own any other trainers.

Same with tracksuits. Why would you wear them if not taking part in sport?

Most of my 'casual wear' trainers are not technical in the slightest - there are no sports I'd choose to wear them for. Most of those discussed on this thread have clearly been selected without sport in mind too.

Conversely (no pun intended), the trainers I use for running were chosen after some gait analysis and the like in a specialist running shop. I'm not particularly taken with the look of them and, as such, would never wear them for anything other than running.

Exactly this. Of the 8 pairs in my picture above, pretty much none of them could be worn for actually DOING sport. Maybe the Chile62s for football, at a push.

I didn't include my other adidas pairs - my running shoes, football trainers, golf spikes or football boots, because they are not what this thread is about.

Cracking thread - I do love a pair of trainers.

Just before Christmas, I bought what turned out to be the most comfortable trainers I've ever worn - Nike Air Max Terra 180s. Not what I'd normally go for, but when they are reduced from £120 to £30 in Offspring, you can't say no. They sit beside my 180 Ultramarines that I actually bought from eBay last year because I wanted them so much. There were also some Reebok Pumps in Offspring at the same time, which I was going to buy for Bobkin Jnr, but decided against it. Takes me back – always wanted, but never had, a pair.

I'm slightly envious of you Adidas lot - my feet are way too wide for them - only had one pair and they didn't last long.

I have running trainers (one pair of New Balance and one Nike) at the moment, but the other trainers I have I would never run in. In fact when I first started running I had a pair of Nike Courtez (one of many, MANY pairs) and it did me a serious injury. So, while I see what you're saying soistes, I distinguish the two from each other.

Can't get into the NB trainers. Worn by slightly square Japanese people.

But, great thread. Love trainers.

These days it's the Onitsuka Tigers for me.

But over the years, very special mentions to Nike Air Max, owned many a pair.Adidas of course. And, one pair of Reeboks I owned. they were blue and red. Lasted years, loved them. Perhaps they would take my all time favourite accolade.

I sometimes order trainers from this shop in Berlin http://www.overkillshop.com/en/index/
Visited it once when over there. Worth going just to look at the shop alone.

Can't decide on 1 but these are my favourite pairs.. I have about 20 pairs of trainers, 10 or so of which are Adidas.

I'd find it hard to nominate a single pair.

I've undoubtedly spent most of the past 20 years in Adidas classics of some sort or another, with shell toes featuring heavily. For a court shoe, it still has to be Adidas. For a retro-runner, I'm with Herr Tubthumper - the NB 574s take some beating. They're next on my list.

Yep. I've entered a 10k in April. Training for that in a pair of Brooks I had specially fitted at Run in Hove. The Gazelles are for wearing to footy or the pub.

I have been wearing Brooks Ghost for running for many years now. I get a new pair every 6 months. A quality choice.

I hate seeing big bulky proper running shoes worn with jeans, I do wear casual trainers but I wouldn't go running in them.

It depends on the cut of the jean. New Balance look great, and a bit hipster, with a tapered/skinny jean IMHO. They will look crap with a straight cut unless you're very tall.
