Although I'd like to see him playing Test cricket for Ireland.
I'm not sure he'd be up to be considered an overseas player, that would reduce his opportunities considerably

I totally accept sport is cyclical. In fact for Sussex the 'Adams Era' was a glorious aberration; apart from that, save the odd one-day triumph, we have never been what you could call a successful First Class county. Proud and historic, yes. Successful, no. So here we are, shit again, that's just the way it goes.Unacceptable? What are you going to do about it if you don't accept it?
Look, we're playing young sides and getting hammered, yes it's rubbish. I also much preferred it when we had Mushy and Goodwin etc etc crushing all asunder. But sport is cyclical, sometimes your team is on the up, sometimes they are rubbish.
In this instance, it's not due to chronic mismanagement, there's nothing really to protest about. The tectonic plates have shifted underneath Sussex. From hereon in, it's going to be very hard to beat test match / 100 hosting counties in the Championship. It was anyway, it will only get harder. Success will look like keeping our club and keeping our ground

Only this is different. In the past when we were shit we were at least trying NOT to be shit. And yes, I accept the kids are all great kids and are trying their best, but they have been put in an impossible situation. That's what I'm cross about, the fact that the County have given up on the First Class game. They're deliberately not playing a stronger side so that we can hopefully win a white ball tournament. And yes this might be the future from now on, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
In the interest of fairness I should point out that I make similar rants when the Albion play weakened sides in the Cup competitions!

I wonder if Tony Bloom would like to buy a cricket team?
A long way to go according to Wiki
"Highest total against – 7226 by Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, 1895"
Not quite true. We were runners-up in 81 by only two points - and many thought we were unlucky not to get an lbw decision at Notts that would have won it. We were around the top for a few seasons too.
We finished runners-up three years running in the 30s (when Yorkshire had a near unbeatable team).
And were a top four side at the end of the 19th/start of the 20th when Ranji and Fry were running riot.
Yes, it's cyclical but we were scarcely a team of permanent no-hopers before the Grizz/Mushy era
Many a true word in spoken in jest.
It never went anywhere but I understand from an ex players Dad who claimed to be in the know, a couple of years ago TB and others were looking to take over control of the club, develop the ground for high class residential and leisure/casino complexes and then build a new ground elsewhere in the County.
At the time I thought whilst it was probably discussed in hushed tones it was a huge ask to get all the respective ducks in a row, as well as getting the general public on side.

I remember 81 - more disappointment
But until Adams that's all we were - plucky losers. Look at the number of titles won by our southern neighbours and near-neighbours, Surrey, Kent and Middlesex. Even bloody Hampshire won it in 1973.
Hmm, If anyone knows of the difficulties of getting a ground built it's TB.
He would have transformed himself from one of the most popular to most unpopular men in the county overnight.
**** Nobby sniffs the air *** hmm, what's that smell?
Imagine enduring a session conceding 135 runs for just one wicket. Then multiply that by 5 times. Then throw in constant hot weather. That's Sussex's match so far.
Session No. 6 underway.
At least we have the consolation of having won the County Championship 3 times. Gloucestershire, Northants and Somerset have never won it and - looking at the direction of travel in the domestic game - probably never will.
I think there needs to be an agreement about that. Players from Ireland should be encouraged into the English game as it stands but allowed to represent Ireland. It will encourage the development of the game there.
Kent have only won the Championship title on three occasions in the last 100 years. The most recent in 1978. There only real period of general success was late 60s and 70s.In the last forty years they only have three pieces of silverware.
Not like I'm Kentist or nuffin. I'm not even sure Middlesex have more trophies than Sussex in the last 40 years, or Surrey for that matter.
I love my cricket, and I love my Sussex.
(I was a refugee from Surrey, cast aside at birth and saved by a kindly Sussex children's home six weeks later- there's a grudge )
