[Music] What is the most that would you pay for a concert ticket

I kept quiet about that gig when I saw it, my wife is a massive Streisand fan and has asked me to book tickets for any concerts she does, regardless of price. Paying £500 x 2 to go to a concert I know I’d hate is a step too far for me !

I do feel guilty now, as she is unlikely to tour again

I went with someone who is a big fan, surprisingly I enjoyed it although didn’t expect to. Although I guess as she is considered one of the top 3 female singers of all time, I guess she knows how to sing !

I went to dozens of gigs in Brighton in the early 80’s ... they always seemed to cost about £2, with venues such as The New Regent being £1 I think.

I also did this in the late 70s and early 80s, saw many bands for a few pounds maximum. As I was at school and had a part time job I think the tickets to see the bands i liked were probably very good value at the time.
I also did see some bands for free, myself and some friends would ' help ' the roadies in the afternoon and blag getting on the guest list. Sometimes we would meet the bands in the afternoon and watch the sound check and ask for autographs, occasionally we would get free tickets by simply asking the band, sort of thing we got away with being aged 14.
I did see The Who for free at the Brighton Centre, a friends dad knew someone that worked there and got free tickets

After paying next to nothing to see so many bands I wouldn't pay hundreds now to see the likes of Phil Collins wheeled out.

Bloody hell, a lot of you must have money to burn. £35-50 tops for me. Beyond that I reckon I'm being mugged. Decent local bands for £10-15 is more like it.

I paid around £100 to see Tom Petty at Albert Hall a few years back. It was magnificent. I've paid £70ish to see Dylan at Brixton and Neil young at Hmmersmith in past 10yrs or so. I too have just booked to see Brian Wilson at the Dome for £70. It will be the 3rd time I've seen him and it's never cheap. Last time was a couple of years back at the Palladium. He wasn't massively involved in the gig but it was still great to see him and hear the music.

Saw Petty at the Brighton Centre, couldn't understand a word he was saying between songs with his Southern Accent, sounded like a foreign language.

I think a lot of people would pay good money to see the original Jam play again. As you say never going to happen as Weller always struck me as a bit of a misery. The Police famously didn't get on that well but even Sting didn't begrudge the reunion tour back in 2008 which topped up the pensions for Summers and Copeland. Don't think Buckler and Foxton are going to be that lucky which is a shame for them and us punters.

Weller and Foxton are actually on good terms again these days. Paul's dad passed away at a similar time to Bruce sadly loosing his wife to 'c'. Foxton co-wrote a track - Fast Car / Slow Traffic about 10 years or so ago and joined Paul on stage at one of his Royal Albert Hall gigs. Paul has also appeared on Foxton's 'solo' albums.

That said ... it just ain't going to happen!

Yes, I have seen far more gigs at very affordable prices.

The Hope and Ruin still has brilliant gigs on for £6 with three bands on the bill. That is £2 each.

I was lucky - students' union Friday and Saturday night dances (The Who, Jethro Tull, The Byrds, Velvet Underground, The Tremeloes, The Searchers, Derek and the Dominoes, Yes, Chicken Shack, Then Years After, Fairport with Sandy, The Nice, Statues Quo - and a few others I can't remember, all costing shillings rather than pounds! Oh yes, and Pink Floyd too) plus the Bath and Isle of Wight festivals in the early 70s got me most of my bucket list of bands to see.

Bands I would have liked to have seen but missed - The Beatles, Small Faces, Genesis, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Rush, Slade, Black Sabbath, Tom Petty - too late for all of those now!

Much happier seeing local bands/artistes playing in pubs (costs nowt except for the beer) or in small local venues - where in recent years I've seen The Damned, The UK Subs and The Oyster Band, all for less than £20. Most I've ever paid is for The Bootleg Beatles (about 25 quid IIRC) - bloody good they are too, and not a fraction of the cost of seeing 60% of Genesis!

Just paid £380 for 4 tickets (me and the family) to see the Killers at Southampton this summer.

It gets bloody expensive now the kids what to come to the concerts as well.

Most expensive for me was the two tickets to Kate Bush at around £135 each. The Who at £110 in three weeks is a close second, followed by Springsteen at The Ricoh for about £100 (got into the pit). Bush and Springsteen well worth it, The Who remains to be seen.

I usually pay up to £50/60 for decent seats. The Eagles at over £200 are out of my range.

I guess you have both seen 'From the Jam' in Brighton if not I think they are well worth a visit. It might not be Paul Weller but it is Bruce Foxton and the original drummer plus a PW lookalike who does pretty well.Tickets are about £25 and the Concorde 2 is a great venue.

Yep - seen From The Jam quite a few times - Russel Hastings does a great job on vocals and guitar. Rick Buckler hasn't played drums with them for 10 years or so.

Looking at the price of tickets to see half a band of old men who have reformed made me wonder on this.

I’d go to £100 to see Neil Young (another old man) as long as it wasn’t a massive venue. That’s it

Although I've seen him, I'd pay £100 to see Neil Young again. I have no idea how high I'd go if I could get to see Tom Waits

Like a lot of people have said depends on who they are little they play.

Mine would be a Talking Heads reunion (will never happen) I have paid a fair few quid to see David Byrne over the years.

Most from an official sale for a single artist not a festival must have been Kate Bush £135 each and I bought 2.

Saw him playing Eno stuff at The Dome about a decade ago. Staggering. Charming, too.

I spent over £ 150 for Paul McCartney last year. No-one else out there that I'd consider paying that amount to see.

If there was one artist I wouldn’t spend five quid to go and watch...........

Takes all sorts, variety is the spice of life etc.......
