Good call, Abba are the undistibuted giants of pop, the misses plays the greatest hits in her call, track 1 , thats a great song, track 2 great song, track 3 great song, tacks 4 thats superb, track 5 excellent and on and on.

The consistancy of their output was staggeringly good.

east 17 better than squeeze, REM, New Order, Crowded House, Run DMC, Inxs, Queen, Happy Mondays, Catatonia, Slade, Talk Talk, The Mighty Wah, Aztec Camera, The Specials?

Come on now U.S.

Stay another day shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breathe as the above.

but it's pretty average when you consider what is the greatest EVER.

What about American Pie, Up the Junction, Losing my religion, I am the resurrection, there is a light that never goes out, walk this way, close to you, eve of destruction, it's my life, hey boy hey girl, i think i love you, cum on feel the noize, only one i know, killing me softly, misty blue, sitting on the dock of the bay, will you still love me tomorrow.

Christ, there's thousands of songs much much better than anything East 17 have done.

Hey Mickey, Whats going on, Forever in Blue Jeans, don't you want me baby, everybody hurts, fight the power.......

No such thing as the best 'pop' song. It all depends on the time of day, the mood you are in, your own particular taste etc.

I do remember, however, that Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bridge over troubled water' used to always come at or near the top of a lot of listener polls while I was a young'un. Seems reasonable enough, I suppose.

too subjective.

better than Janis? Aretha? Dionne Warwick? Whitney? Ella Fitzgerald? Bjork? Carole King? Roberta Flack? Patti Smith? PJ Harvey? Mamma Cass?

Impossible to compare but definitely, undeniably the Carpenters were a fine, fine band and Karen C had a beautiful, beautiful voice.

I can't name my top 100 songs I'm afraid. Changes daily - no, every time I think of another song.

Uninteresting fact, the greatest song of all time, as voted by the Radio One listeners in 1989 was "I Owe You Nothing" by groovy pop beat combo BROS.
