I used to have either Gola or the budget-end Patrick when my parents bought them. Them when I turned 13 and started earning my own cash from paper rounds and then saturday jobs, I'd save up enough each summer for a decent pair of Nike or Addidas. Despite my parents' dissaproval at the profligate use of my wages, it was money well spent as the quality held up better over the course of a season with a game of football and rugby every weekend, as well as use in PE 2x most weeks week for various sports including cross-country running in ankle-deep mud.

Although, one year I bought myself a pair of Reebok TechTan boots based on the marketing promise that the synthetic material was water resistant, super strong and could be cleaned with a damp cloth. This proved to be a load of bollocks as the material had disintegrated by around the end of February and I had to buy my next season's boots several months early.

Best boots ever were the Addidas World Cups I bought using part of my student loan in freshers' week. Nothing flash to look at, but made from lightweight kangaroo skin and superb quality in general.

The most comfortable boots I ever wore,honestly, they were like carpet slippers.

Does anyone remember the Alan Ball boots that were the first white ones, and they had a swivel type affair in the sole to help you turn quicker.

I wonder how many ACLs they were responsible for.

As a kid, it would have been something from the Winfield brand sold by Woolworths - cheap and cheerful.

Same as me in about 67. Then Puma London City (off my mate for ten Bob) and then Addidas Beckanbauer.

Had a pair of Puma's before coming across Adidas 2000’s.

Bought a pair whilst on holiday in former Yugoslavia during the late !970’s for the equivalent of £10 ( the pound was very strong in those days) not thinking the quality would be very good.

How wrong I was.Not only were they really soft and fitted like a glove they lasted for quite a few years during my Sunday League years.

When I went back to Yugoslavia for another holiday in the 1980’s, I bought another pair (still really cheap) which lasted me into my 30’s.

Playing football in welly boots, does a have a certain knack to it, especially when taking penalties.

Started out with hand-me-down Pococks in the 60s (no padding, no frills) but saw my mates, wearing Slazenger Challenge and the world was transformed,so comfy. I had a pair of Puma Hat-tricks but honestly Puma boots with screw in studs were awful, Patrick were the best for that. I still have a pair of oh so stylish Lotto boots in the loft waiting for the call at age 69 (me, not the boots)

Can't remember but they had screw in studs then moulded, I always wanted Patricks as they had a soft spongy ankle protector! There were those George Best sponsored with a circle of studs that swiveled so you could do sharp turns, probably hospital fodder!! I was well known at Cuckfield hospital for sprains and various things.
