Can,t sell out Withdean for the biggest club in the league, the most exciting manager we have had for years, 2 good results in his 1st games, wonderful new ground on the way etc...surely these things alone would have got people going, but no bad weather, prices, withdean, etc. usual excuses,i really think the support isn,t there anymore to many people got out the habit of going,

I wanted to go with two friends who'd never been before, but the club's ridiculous ticketing policy made it more hassle than it was worth. So we all stayed at home and didn't pay £25 for the privilege of getting soaked.

Meopham, Kent.
Because maybe, just maybe, the bollox conditions at Withdean are having an adverse effect on how many want to go.

I need the roof, a decent bar within reach of my comfy chair and toilets that are not in a porta cabin.

As reference to why fans do not turn up, see lots of other clubs with new grounds (Southampton, New Den) near us and they may have been the same. Football has become very expensive and it would be good if we ever get a sniff at TV money to have lots of cheap/free tickets on offer.

We won't fill falmer except first day its opened and prem footy. But we will get neutrals from nowhere who will possibly convert etc we won't have a problem getting the crowds if the marketing pr is done right. Plus the old saying if you build it they will come. It will be useful for other things like gigs, world cup footy games etc

Derby (I see your avatar location) always seem to fill theirs, do they have a deal or are the fans all full of blind faith and pay their hard earned cash to watch every week.

World cup games?

They only happen once every forty or fifty years if you're talking about us hosting the thing so hardly a selling point?
And besides I think Falmer will be well down the pecking order of Fifa venues?

Because withdean is not up to current premireship standards so if brighton and hove albion the club wants to progress as the signs are it does then it is a necessity not a why.

The club has not been in a better off field condition finacialy or otherwise in the 40 years i have supported them, people can see whats happening at brighton and come the opening day at falmer the place will be full whoever we are playing.

The hardcore 5,000 ish that go to withdean week in week out whatever the weather have kept the club ticking over in mediocrity for far to long,i have never been more optomistic that this club will someday not to distant be a top flight club.

I think you're wrong Hilda.I;m pretty sure you need to have a capacity of at least 10,000 and the floodlights would need upgrading.

But I wouldn't worry too much at the moment

Because the albion have had big crowds in the past, have a catchment area the envy of most clubs and if they get it right the albion will again be a top flight club. Not many clubs would have had any fan base at all after the last 15/20 years.Club has serious work to do however and need to stop recruiting ex footballers to run its marketing operations and instead get professionals in

I think he was refering to the standards the supporters paying to watch expect rather than any rule book standard.

You know what, i ask them this almost every week. Why do 30,000+ of you turn up at pride park every week. They really can't give a straight answer except that they've got good support. There is no specials offers on matchday tickets that i know of, they pay £20 upwards for a ticket. However the majority of them are season ticket holders, every fan i work with is one, ever fan i talk to in my local are ST holders. I think it's just a culture. Alot of derbyans say there's not much else to do in derby so they go watch footy. So the conclusion is that its just a town and county thats mad on its football club and turn up year after year. I take off my hats off to them. And i hope we get them in r3 of the fa cup at pride park

harsh but fair... the ground is shit, frankly we are lucky to have 5k die hards willing to put up with it. come Falmer we will comfortably see regular 10-15k if in the champions probably near 10k in L1.

We don't need a stadium to house more people , it's facilities for the ones we got all be it that Falmer will often look half empty

The problem here is that everyone totally ignores the fact the we have lost thousands of fans over the 10 years at Withdean experience.

They have either given up football or support another club as the facilities we offered are so crap.

Time really will tell if we ever see those people again.

What do we need a new stadium for?

Quite simply, to move forward. Without it we'll be forever going backwards. Do you know how much the club are losing (moneywise and supportwise) at Withdean? Do some research and you'll find out why Falmer is essential.
