what do job agencies really mean.. rant #3

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
As with every industry, you are bound to have good AND bad experiences. The bad experiences are more likely to stand out.

In my experience, recruitment consultants will help you, if you help yourself. They can't just give you a job! Pin them down and ask if the job is currently available and keep on harassing them!

I was dealing with twats like you BEFORE YOU WERE BORN. Like I say most people think people like you are no better than rabid dog shit, thank you for confirming mine and most everybody else opinions but talking utter bollocks, once again, something that's much needed in your trade.

Time you flounced ! Give you more time to make your cold calls and annoy people with proper jobs.,

You are not really doing yorself any favours are you. Can you not see that you are coming over as a bigot. If anything, people are starting to gang up against you, not me.

I have done nothing except tell my side of the story - I have told the truth. All you seem to have done is called me a leper, a pimp and rabid dog shit. It's pathetic, it really is.

Yes, I will be going to back to work soon. But I'll be back, possibly this evening. I won't flounce from a bitter, foul mouthed bigot like you.

I work in a niche market - graduate recruitment. Did the whole white collar stuff in the past and enjoyed it, but I love the grad sector - I get to work with lots of young people and give them lots of advice throught the process. I have great clients too.

Grad rec is good because I can really add value and help them get a great job and start a career. It's not as cut throat as some sectors and I enjoy that.

Yep, make plenty of commision. I work a 47 hour week minimum, 54 hours last week. Target driven environment, all the usual pressures of sales - I work harder than all my mates - believe me, I earn it. I certainly don't feel like a saint but I am not dishonourable either.

However, what I cannot stand is the assumptions that people make about me and others in my profession who do a bloody good job and that's why I get touchy about it. It's bigotry, plain and simple and I've all ready been there before. I accept that there are people who don't hold the same values as me in recruitment. That's the same whatever you do - there are footballers like Leon Knight and there are footballers like Adam Virgo. I just don't want to be tarred with the same brush.

Yeah, like I said earlier mate, I have used specialist agencies before (oo-err missus), but as I am a professional liar, (Marketer) I just smile when someone gives it the old Blah Blah about what I do. I am payed to get my products to the most customers, as are you, we are ALL in sales.

We all gotta make a buck brother.

No, this is largely a scam by agencies to get more CVs in and generally raise their profile. They frequently advertise jobs that don't necessarily exist.

You are not allowd to by law. But you can advertise general jobs which is different

Frankly this is such a silly thread. Anyone who thinks that all recruitment agencies are bad is off their rocker. As in any industry there are good ones and bad ones... if they were alll bad no one would use them... no good company wastes its money on a bad recruitment agaency... I know I used recruitment agencies for five years and there were many who got the sharp end of my tongue... but there were also ones who went the extra mile to get me the person I really needed.

But JS don't take it personally. Before and since working in the publishing industry I've been in education everyone slags off teachers.... teachers spend their whole lives trying to make things better for others and receive next to no reward and find most decisions in education being taken by people who know nothing about education... consider yourself lucky before taking every criticism personally.

Ho-Hum back to conning young teachers that the career they've chosen really is appreciated.......just kidding :)

Ive been a consultant for 4 years, never had any complaints or problems and dont treat my staff of clients like shit. The candidates are the most important people to an agency as without them we are nothing, add to this recruitment is fukin hard work, I was in at 6.45 this morning and will be here till gone five.

Just because you have a bad experience with them doent mean we are all cnuts. I had a dodgy curry once in Tunbridge Wells, doesnt mean they are all shit.

And I would be very interest to see what everyone does on here

How do you actually KNOW that dogshit is RABID?

Does it FROTH on the pavement or can you tell by the colour?

He knows EVERYTHING, about everyone and everything. However, even though he's being dealing with people like me since before he was born he still has to use us to find work. That must explain the bitterness...

brighton, actually
p.s... my thinking is, a company would only use an agency if there was a job to fill, and the cost etc had already been signed off..

although just had a call from a separate agency, with possibility of some temp work up to xmas (and beyond..?) will see how that goes, too.

what doesnt help is not getting any reply, as need proof of what i have looked for, to show the job centre..

something will come.. i can feel it in me bones...

re agency commissions, i once worked at a firm and saw some of their invoices.. 15-20% commission seemed to be the 'norm'.. not bad for a few phone calls?

hmmm, www.desprateseagullsrecruitment.com anyone..?:flameboun

What a magnificent thread - it's got it all. Everything from agency whinges (I dislike agents as well I'm afraid) to bhaexpress losing his sad old rag as usual with the usual tirade of abuse he wouldn't dare say in public. What an absolute gimp.

JS,
I can't say I'm a fan of agencies in general, but in your defence, I can say that among recruitment agents I have come across a massive variation in the quality of service. Most of them are terrible. They bother you with ill-suiting jobs, they don't usually know what they're trying to sell (i.e. what the requirements actually mean), they invariably submit your CV but don't bother contacting you if your CV has been rejected by their client. By and large, recruitment agents offer a shit service in my experience. And to prove the point, I've been with the same agent for a decade - not because I am biased towards them, it's just that they do seem to get the job done ahead of most of the other agencies! Ergo, most other agencies can't compete because they're crap!
To be honest, why should I have respect for any service industry that isn't properly regulated? And why, 3 years down the line, do they still get paid 8% of my rate by my employer? As an agent, what possible value are you adding to justify that? In fact, all you do is add another layer of risk to me not being paid!

It seems to me that those who are bad-mouthing recruitment agencies come across as the sort of people I would not want to work with.

Perhaps that's the problem, but they have to blame someone else? ???

Seems odd to me that desperateseagull has to start a thread about this every couple of months. Perhaps there's a reason for that, too......

And that's not the first time you've posted that, either.

If it's so easy, how come you haven't got off your arse and done it yet?

At the end of the day if you dont like agencies, dont use them and find your own job. Simple really.

I recruit specifically for supply teachers, and Schools in Nottingham prefer using me (us) because, we Interview, criminal record check, reference, Check they are not peodos and make sure we can put them into a school at a minutes notice, saves them a bit job, and this is why we justify our fee. The alternative is kids going without teachers.

Before i start - there are good and bad agencies. I've worked with Agencies for the last 20 years and seen all sorts - jobs advertised that didn't exist in order to fill candidate databases to recruitment consultants picking up candidates at the train station and driving them to interviews.

But this morning, my pa got a call from an agent who insisted that they only wanted to talk to me because i had e-mailed them. He should have checked that my pa didn't have access to my e-mail account first :shootself :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:
