A neighbour has got a mutt and it will not stop yapping, whining and barking. What laws can I use to get them to shut it up?

Complaining about dogs that bark
Constant barking, whining or howling can be disturbing and annoying for neighbours.

You can make a complaint to your local council about a dog that is disturbing you, or causing a nuisance, because of its barking. Usually the environmental health department will handle your complaint. Contact your local council for details.

It'll be a case of video or tape recorders and diaries. Collect the evidence and present it.

I live in Hove remember, once word is out I'm on the case I'm sure there will be some busy-body who will furnish me with the dates and times, number of barks, yaps and growls etc.

hope you are not living next to me and the pup:ohmy:

I live near the top end of Osborne Villas, it would appear the mutt is being kept in a back garden at the top end of Seafield or maybe one of the shops which back onto the tops of these two roads. If it is you can you do something about it please, I'm trying to work.

Paddy was sick to death of next doors dog barking all night, and the neighbours not doing anything about it. 1 night he finally snapped & at 2am got up saying "thats it, im gunna sort this out!". 30 mins later he got back in bed, his wife said "not sure what youve done but its not worked, its still barking". Paddy said "i know, ive put the dog in our garden, see how they f***ing like it!!"

The laws for keeping dogs?

1. Its okay for YOUR dog to have the occassion snide shit without bagging it. It was only 'a little bit' anyway. Other people whose dogs defecate all over the place are irresponsible owners giving us all a bad name.

2. Its okay for YOUR dog to yap or bark incessantly. He's just a bit bored. Other people whose dogs are left to bark all day are irresponsible owners giving us all a bad name.

3. Its okay to let YOUR dog run about for a bit, even though the sign says 'all dogs on leads'. He's not doing any harm. Other people whose dogs run all over the place are irresponsible owners giving us all a bad name.

4. Its okay if YOUR dog jumps up at people, terrifies small children, etc. He's just 'being freindly'. Other people whose dogs are not kept under control are irresponsible owners giving us all a bad name.

5. YOUR dog would never turn or bite anyone. Its just 'not in his nature'. etc.

I think that covers most of it, Herr T.

*awaits TORRENTS of abuse from all the responsible dog owners, to whom NONE of the above applies. Ever.

hkfc - Point 1 is what annoys me the most - as an occasional runner I spend far too much time cleaning dog shit off my shoes. There is simply no excuse. It makes me want to go shit on the onwers garden path - see how they like it.

No arguments here, far too many dog owners actually belief this.
