In all honesty we fall foul of nos 3, soz.

That's okay. The signs don't apply to your dog anyway. They mean OTHER people's dogs.

Just like the chap who's dog was chasing the baby deer in the aboretum we were at yesterday. Those signs didn't apply to him either.

So what can the family do about the dog? They cannot stop it barking.
The dog in question in 'missing' something, usually exercise.
The dog is bored and barking at anything, he wouldn't be barking if he'd had an hour free run and 30 mins lead walk, each day.

Get rid of it, if they are unable to look after it properly.

Its a public nuisance. Why should other residents' peace be ruined by a dog yelping all day? In not taking steps to resolve the situation, the owners behavior is wholly anti-social. Smack them with an ASBO.

My next door kept parking their ugly van outside my house and as punishment I was considering getting a tin of pedigree chum, lacing it with rat poison and chucking it randomly into their garden.

In the end I thought it wouldnt have perhaps got to the root of the problem and would have been a little harsh on the dog especially considering he rarely barked or anything.

I feel however that this idea has significant mileage in your situation.

Conspiracy to kill a dog surely!

I've just spoken to the 'dog' owner. It turns out it is a puppy and should quieten down in a few weeks. Is this true/likely?

As aside the person I spoke to did not look like a normal dog owner, they were young, living with someone and no obvious issues. Maybe they've ramped up the back ground checks for dog licenses?

As long as they raise the wee pup right it should quiten down. Right now it's prob reacting to every new person, sight and sound with a bark.It should get used to it's environment and settle down soon. Also it may not have had it's shots yet which means they may not be able to take it out for walks yet, causing it to be a bundle of energy and noise.

Fair enough, I was quite noisy and reactionary as a pup as well.

My dog can't read, so no wonder he's completely out of control.
