What actually happens at Pride?

Now this may seem like a stupid question but what actually happens at Brighton/Gay pride? I live literally 5 minutes walk from preston park but have had no desire to set foot near however I've suddenly realised just how many people I know go to Pride.

So then, what goes on?

Street Party in St James street 8-12 - More drink and music
Black rock rave 12am - 12pm - Various sound systems set up, interesting mixture of locals, visiting gay people and chavs, somewhat less legal than the rest of it.
