[Albion] What about this for a solution to this year's football

At the end of my tether
Cannot say that any solution is good, but we have to make the best of a bad job. My view is to terminate season 19/20 now. declare L/pool the winners, have no relegation , promote the top 2 Champ teams and have 22 in Prem next year.....

LOL . Your last paragraph saved your bacon on that suggestion of "Let's use Footballers as Guinea Pigs"

There is only one solution; the 19/20 season is null and void. Throughout the leagues. Can we please stop feeling sorry for Liverpool, Leeds and West Brom. There are hundreds of leagues up and down the country in lots of sports and all will have the same disappointments.

agree in principle, but at some point UEFA will want make a decision affecting teams for European competition, in case things resolve and 20/21 can resume with some normality (also to excert some sort of authority). the obvious thing for them is to pick the midway point of the season. Premier League would go along with this, no promotion/relegation, Liverpool as "Champions (*half season)".

Don't think OP suggestion should be rubbished too early. We face up to 18 months of stop-go so very likely there will be no football periods for at least a year. The idea of squeezing 9 fixtures into a month then starting again with full season in August is fanciful. An extended 19/20 season would at least allow for further periods of downtime. The issue will be TV income; can hardly blame broadcasters for not paying so clubs will either have to live on directors' loans or go bust if this goes on.

This is very likely a make it up as we go along issue. Speculation is frankly pointless. We love certainty and plans and routine but Coronavirus chucks all of these out of the window. Rule nothing out and nothing in at this stage.

Because the health of people should determine how long and what happens not the whims of fans and tv money men.

I have absolutely no idea what that has to do with what I would like to happen to the rest of this season and next season. I am giving an opinion on what should happen, nothing more. You are on the wrong thread if you want to talk about health and the coronavirus. We all know nothing will happen with football until we see what happens the world over and this is a thread about people’s ideas for what they think should happen once we get to play again.

As we all know. Many teams don't want this season to end because they are either chasing Promotion to the division above. Or European places.

Others want it declared Null and void because they have the possibility of being relegated to a lower division.

Given that we now know that this Pandemic could run for 3 to 6 months and beyond. So rather than Rush to play games behind closed doors in the coming months and risking the health of players and workers needed to get games played.

What if we were to cancel next seasons Football altogether and use next season or what would be left of it to finish this year's football season at a leisurely pace ?

Your thoughts ?

I think we should go back to completing this season in August, and let it finish in October.

At that point, the new season begins but with the caveat that the first 19 games are played, the league is then split in two (like they do in Scotland) and each team just plays a second match against teams in it's half of the split - 28 games rather than 38, no league cup, and no replays in all FA cup games.

As often is the case you didn't properly read what was posted and then went off on a tangent and then threw in an insult for good measure.

I think the solution is very easy really:

- Finish this season as soon as we possibly can. This might not be until December
- Then plan the next two seasons to get us back to the normal routine.

Even if we can't start next season until January this is definitely achievable, with the season running January to say August by removing all cup competitions. Then start second season October through to June (again cancel cup comps), then start third season on normal dates, cups back in all back to normal.

Fairest way to ensure this season is finished, and the likelihood is we will be back up and running earlier than December anyway so dates could be squeezed more than this.

How about finishing this season, which in all likelihood would be around Christmas 2020. (The players are going to need a pre season and a few friendlies first)

From January 2021, play every team once - 19 league games. Half would play 10 home games/9 away and vice-versa.

No domestic cup competitions. European football straight knock out games.

Similar to what I suggested the other day but mine was for games to be played at neutral grounds.

Get with the programme! I already suggested this a couple of weeks back!

why is there insistence of finishing this season and distrupting the next, so we have two messed up seasons?

It’s the least of anyone’s priorities, 100,000’s or more may lose their lives across Europe.

When football’s safe to start again, it doesn’t matter too much now just now, whether that will be the end of the 2019/20 season, or the start of 2020/21 or 2021/22 season.

The football authorities across Europe are wise to make no finite decisions. What’s the rush? Obviously Albion and Norwich fans would neatly love the scraping of an awful 2019/20 campaign. Our bias, as well as all the others giving their biased two pennies worth such as John Hartson, will have zero effect on authorities and rightly so.

The best way of completing the current season, is to find a solution to all these lunatics still socialising with one another. The sooner we have a lockdown and everyone gets on with it, the quicker we get back to the beautiful game - problem solved!

how about this..China (apparently) on the road to recovery , or at least they will be sooner than anyone else - have all the teams play their remaining games in china, say from about July. China will pay a fortune for the rights to the matches and revenue can be given to grass roots and struggling L1/L2 teams.

I know it is quite mad really. You would not halt the 400 m Olympic final 90 m from the finish, let the runners cool down, go home and then come back later to run the last 90 m. It would be a farce! Which is what any "finished" season will be.

A strange analogy to compare a one off race with a whole season of matches. It would work with say the FA Cup Final and then I would agree with you, stopping it on 70 minutes and then expected to play the last 20 minutes another time would be ridiculous ( although it has happened before ). Your analogy only works if it was a whole 400m competition with qualifying races leading up to the final and then stopping at say the third round. IMO it would still be viable to run the other rounds at a later date and then the final. Equally there's nothing wrong with completing the current season at a later (safe) date - legal issues such as player contracts aside. All clubs knew the number of games this season and if next season has to be changed to fit then they will also know the circumstances before they start to play.

Football won’t neatly start on August this year, that could be 18 months away. People need to get real.

maybe, maybe not. it doesnt make sense to plan disruption the next season as some seem keen to do.
