Still think Europe is out of sight. There are much better sides than us around and above us.

mid table mediocrity seems attainable

not sure how that ties in with bloom and barber’s intentions of pushing on by spending £200m.

I hope Gomez is the player out of those purchases that is the one as IMHO the rest have not exactly set the world alight.
The league is so tight a few wins gets you back up there it’s like the championship this season. Teams will come from nowhere maybe that will be us.

I’m sure B and B didn’t expect Fab to hit the ground running and for the good results to last all season. We are a young side with a young management team. Let’s be patient.

(Ps why couldn’t Henderson have been this crap against us last week?)

Ha ha, but we all know what will actually unfold. Abandon all hope, it’s easier!! ;)

We are not a lucky side.

Fair comments from FH post match. We didn't deserve to win, we're not precise in the moments, we've lost that from the first games of this season. Will work together as a squad to get it back

That spending spree wasn't designed for instant effect, it was a longer term investment.

A huge chunk of that 200m was spent on players for the future. It was spent across 8 signings: Two are teenagers that have gone straight out on loan and another 2 are U21s with very little senior level experience. Even the other 4 are fairly young (aged 22-24), and of them, Ferdi and O’Riley have mostly been injured and Weiffer and Ritter have done ok.

Let’s give it some time. Most of our best signings over the years have been slow burners.

IMHO - there are very few sides that are much better than us. Even going through a bad spell we have fabulous talent in and out of the squad.

This explains why Pedro was absent for long periods today 🤣

What a lot of negative nellies we have.

We did fine, I’m amused by those describing West Ham as “a shit team” when they’ve won a European trophy within the last couple of seasons. There aren’t any completely shit teams in the PL, except perhaps Southampton.

Second half in particular we played a lot of really good attacking football, were unlucky to not get another goal, Velts was back and it felt like Ferguson was trying to put himself about a bit.

Loads to like in that performance, well done lads. 👏 - note that my expression of appreciation is Paul Barber vetted and approved.

No need for that.

Me ‘leaving 5 mins from the end‘ was a reflection on the subs made by Lopetegui rather than a criticism of us and them changing to a back 5. I didn’t feel like watching what to me felt like a foregone conclusion ie that the last 10 minutes was going to be boringly predictable in that WHU was making a tactical change to play for the point and we’d spend 10 minutes looking close to breaking down their newly shored up defence but not actually succeeding because we rarely do in that situation.

When teams drop into a low block, it creates space for the oppo to advance and press higher but it more often than not creates a ‘false’ impression that the oppo has gained the upper hand - as I predicted, we battered them in the final minutes and continued to control the midfield (which WHU had gifted tons of space to us throughout) but had trouble breaking down the defence in the final passes.

We didn’t deserve more than the point today - it wasn’t a winning performance but it was a performance certainly good enough not to lose with some good individual play from most of the players, it just wasn’t consistently good from all of them.

I don’t feel overly negative or overly positive as some in here - and don’t feel the need to judge those that do. I just feel we are still a work in progress and having a pretty average season all things considered.

I feel this is actually kind of disrespectful of the teams around us tbh. There are plenty of teams in this league that are just as good as us right now and frankly the players we have aren’t looking significantly more talented than anyone else’s.

We really aren’t all that at the moment.

The commentators on the feed I watched were complimentary about "Brighton's beautiful football."
I think some of this is a bit of a legacy of what they used to watch. They also keep talking about our high possession football - overlooking the fact that we don't have this anymore to the degree we did (53% average this season, 61% last two seasons).
