Thought there was 2 poor teams on show devoid of confidence. I wish we’d go back to dominating games like we did at Newcastle, Villa, scum etc etc. We just need that win and the confidence will follow. I was pretty convinced we were going down at half time but fully aware West Ham were shit.

Hand on heart, I didn’t. Purely commenting on those 2 clubs having a possible advantage over the 4 I listed.

But in the transfer window, before MacAllister and Lamptey, I’ll admit to being frustrated that Villa and Sheff Utd were doing business, when we hadn’t concluded anything and no rumours. MacAliister and Lamptey raised my optimism hugely.

Alright, no worries.

Villas business, I'll say again, £10m striker, 37 year old goalie, Danny drinkwater.

Hey, if this Samatta is good I'll hold my hands up. But there will be a LOT of Premier league teams wondering how they've missed out on a quality Prem striker for £10m. I will always remember the fuss made about Huddersfield signing Mounie when we hadn't added a striker, the Mounie currently acting as a sub at the bottom of the championship.

Villas signings were made out of desperation. West hams are made from a huge budget and exist in a world where everyone is ignoring their actual league position. Bowen coming in on 80,000 a week, if that can be believed, that's a signing for a team going places. And yet they still look shit. :lolol:

Sheffield, those are exactly the kind of signings we have been making for the last couple of years. Young players seeing something good happening at a new team on the up, club making signings from a position of positivity. We already have our versions of Berge, fair play for them signing one too.

Tbh though, that's one thing I really don't like about the Prem - I find myself disliking every other one of the 19 other teams, being envious of every single one of their signings. Didn't use to be like this. I'm trying to admire Sheffield, i really am.

My best mate is a Villa fan, we talk football all the time, we're very generous about each others team, have looked out for the other's results for years. This season we both (secretly but obviously) want the others team to lose every game. It's very unsettling :lolol:

The disliked clubs thing has mushroomed, it only takes one perceived incident or simply a fishing post, for hordes of middle aged men to pile in with unbridled hate. With Sheff Utd, as a bad loser, I simply found it gutting that 10 seemingly better athletes and so highly motivated, bossed our completely weak and rabbits-in-the-headlights outfield 10. 90 minutes of resigned pain. My consolation, that they later screw rivals weekends too. It’s a funny old game.

Yep. Antonio has looked the best player on the pitch for large spells in both of our last 2 visits there.

Personally I still think they're going down. Poor manager, crap board and a bunch of overpaid, demotivated players.

they are a prime example of all that is wrong in the PL where they have paid inflated wages and fees for pretty average players who have gone there for the money and not the football . Let's not even get on the issue of the 'free ground'.

I still maintain (amazingly after just watching them) they have some very good players.
Players who might even be worth the money that's seemingly necessary to play for West Ham. (much like palace)

I just look at the managers they've appointed and think 'why him?'

Even with Hyypia in the equation you can draw a pretty straight line, albeit comparatively short, from GPoy to GPott.

The same can't be said for West Ham, who have reached the fairly inevitable conclusion of handing £200,000,000 to David Moyes - for the second time.

I just can't get my head around it.

Agree managers are a key part of it but they those appointments themselves represent the ills of the PL. They think they are politicians (maybe they need to be) so when asked about the Brighton game he points to 3 goals they conceded as mistakes that need to be rectified, excluding the comic (??) deflections for their goals and that the turning point in the game was his mistake taking Antonio off.

Regards your comment they have some 'very good' players , a player is only as good as the outcome of his contribution to a game which is a mixture of commitment/passion and skill which is modified by the external 'luck' factor. To me, most of their seem to be greatly deficient in commitment/passion (bar a few e.g. Noble) and if you don't have that then your skills often disappear. The greatest contributor to their game on Saturday was 'luck' with Snodgrass getting lucky with 2 deflected shots which possibly the keeper had covered. That said Snodgrass did make that luck by shooting , rather than dallying around and the second shot did exhibit some skill.

Fair do's.

TBH one more go round and we'll probably be in complete agreement.

You're right they didn't show much 'bottle' on Saturday.

I just lay the blame for that with their current and previous manager more than their pay packets.

Much like the discussion I was having about Pearson being the 'hardman' wearing thin quickly.
I wonder what the incentive for a multi million to care too much about what Moyes has to say.

That's how I come back to my original point, in a proper club with a proper structure and a good respected manager, I think many of the players would be considerably better, even with a pay rise!!!

Like palace and villa. Fully dependent on one player.

Zaha
Grealish
Antonio

If that were true, West Ham would already be relegated. Antonio is by far and away the worst/least frequently productive player on that list and has missed large chunks of the season through injury. He is a menace on his day but he's as likely to be invisible as a handful.

Yes you do, you don't like being called out for being a hypocritical snob. Renewing ya 1901 are you? Whilst no doubt feeling strongly about 'inequality' and 'poverty'

As an aside, I have been invited as a VIP to everyone’s favourite left-leaning football club St Pauli next month. I very much look forward to discussing the working class struggle with Hamburg’s finest over Sekt and a sausage. There’s a spare seat, fancy joining?

Is the dress code you must wear black clothes even as a VIP in the lounges ?

Yes. Gents with a collar. No flip-flops or shorts though.

That seems reasonable, I am sure they consulted Barber when they agreed their corporate dress code

The Athletic says we were in for Soucek... but then West Ham rolled up, and the player thought it was a "no brainer" to sing for them instead... :nono:

He is on loan for now, and goes back if West Ham go down.
